Mated to the Gay Alpha by Blessing Ezekiel

Mated to the Gay Alpha by Blessing Ezekiel

I have read my share of stories with confusing titles and premises but I must admit, Mated to the Gay Alpha by Blessing Ezekiel, so far is the most confusing of them all. The main character is Catherine (or Cathy), a human girl. At the beginning of the story, we see her leaving her home to visit her sick aunt. The author goes out of his way to say that Cathy is a nurse so I assumed she was going there to take care of her sick aunt. Instead, she is tasked to help her aunt by assisting her in the mansion as a line cook. What a waste of her talent! It would have made more sense if the author said she was a chef.

Then we have the identical Alpha twins, Darin and Darwin, who are gay and fully mated to Elliot, their Beta’s nephew. A twist in the plot, Derick, Darwin’s wolf, scents the air and discovers that Cathy is his second mate and for some reason, while he isn’t repelled by Elliot, he also isn’t attracted to him anymore. Darin, on the other hand, finds himself quite attracted to Cathy, despite his wolf, Eric, having no feelings for her and constantly reminding him that Elliot is his mate.

Darwin thinks his wolf is bespelled and accuses Cathy of witchcraft. Cathy has no idea what is happening. And Darin is fascinated by her. Darin decides to interact with Cathy by impersonating Darwin, partly to get information that he wouldn’t be privy to otherwise, but later because he just couldn’t help himself.

Things get complicated when they succumb to their physical attraction with him still pretending to be Darwin. Then Darwin also succumbs and unintentionally Cathy ends up involved with both thinking they were the same person. To put it simply, our characters are confused and we are confused. Are they gay? What is wrong with Elliot? He’s been hostile towards Cathy from the get-go. Is he truly their mate or was their witchcraft involved? Is Cathy actually mates to both of them? What about Lucas?

The story has potential, that much I can assure you, but it also needs a lot of work. The author keeps interchanging names, gets pronouns wrong, and is fond of using idiomatic expressions but uses the wrong one almost all the time. sigh In addition, the way the erotic scenes are written is not really as steamy as I thought they would be, especially the M2M scenes that came with a trigger warning. The way they were written was actually quite juvenile which leads me to believe the author is young and has little or no experience. That being said, experience is gained through practice so do research and keep writing.

This is currently an ongoing story and has 41 chapters to date. I’m on chapter 41 so you know I haven’t given up on it. I am still waiting for clarity and crossing my fingers that it will happen. You can find Mated to the Gay Alpha by Blessing Ezekiel on Goodnovel.

Pacey and his Unicorn Professor by Colbie Dunbar and Lorelei M. Hart

Pacey and his Unicorn Professor by Colbie Dunbar and Lorelei M. Hart

Compared to other books I’ve read from these authors, Pacey and his Unicorn Professor by Colbie Dunbar and Lorelei M. Hart is more chill. The most hair-raising/stressful thing happened in the first chapter and only Pacey was in it. Their first meeting was admittedly high adrenalin but after that everything was more or less smooth sailing.

The title misled me at first because I had the impression that Pacey was a student and Sable was his professor. It turns out that Sable is a professor in a community college, yes, and is Pacey’s “his anything” by virtue of being his mate. A better title would probably have been Pacey and THE Unicorn Professor. I confess to being a little disappointed only because I thought there would be a little taboo thrown in there to spice things up.

I also felt a little incomplete by some characters being mentioned, like Stallone, for example, and nothing more is said about him except “family friend”. Up to the end Sable never introduced him to Pacey. We also never met Sable’s brother or found out his name. Bowell is a shifter midwife but aside from the initial checkup, he had no part in the birthing, so what was he “midwifing”?

According to https://www.pregnancybirthbaby.org.au: A midwife is a health professional trained to support and care for women during pregnancy, labor, and birth. They help you to stay healthy during pregnancy and, if no complications arise, to give birth with little intervention. Midwives also care for you and your baby in the first few weeks following the birth.

Therefore, should Bowell be even called a midwife? Why not just call him a healer? This also brings to mind Stedman, the bear shifter who, besides helping Pacey clean his house in anticipation of his return, is also a healer, or I guess an apothecary. So confusing.

That aside, it’s a HEA story so if light reading is what you are after then Pacey and his Unicorn Professor by Colbie Dunbar and Lorelei M. Hart is a good book to get into. It’s on Amazon for $3.99 or free with Kindle Unlimited. If you are into paperbacks, that is available, too!

Sweet Revenge by Kalenca

Sweet Revenge by Kalenca

I did a quick review last August 2022 of Sweet Revenge by Kalenca and posted it on Facebook and Instagram. When I revisited the post I felt that it was insufficient so here is a more comprehensive post.

From the way the story is written, I would guess that the author is probably Chinese, based on the stereotypical cultural references … women not being good enough to become head of a company, all the bowing, all the slapping (seriously!), and being stigmatized for having sex before marriage even if it is rape.

What intrigued me about this story that got me to read it is that it is between a transgender man (Antonio, formerly Antonia) and a gay man (Damian) who fall in love with each other. But let me back up … they met in a former life accidentally when Damian inadvertently raped Antonia thinking she was the hooker his father hired. At the time, his father had dosed him with a drug akin to Viagra to force him to have sex with a woman. This was because Damian’s father would not accept that Damian is gay.

Antonia, at the time, was inebriated and tricked by her cousin into entering a hotel room to rest as she intended for someone to rape her. Antonia accidentally ended up in the wrong room, which is where Damian found her.

Disowned, ostracized, and later, Antonia discovers she is pregnant from the rape. Never having been comfortable in her own skin, she made the choice to transition after giving birth and took on the guise of Antonio and ends up working for Damian, the man who raped her, as his bodyguard!

The way the story is written (as in the language) is repetitive and, at times, redundant, and I am assuming it is either because English is not the author’s first language or the author is young. DEFINITELY, the author did not get a copy editor.

With a title like Sweet Revenge, it will make one wonder who the revenge is targeted towards. I’d recommend that you read this book and find out. Sweet Revenge by Kalenca is on Goodnovel and has only 157 chapters so it is, thankfully, a normal novel length. I think you will enjoy the story. I know I did.

Candy Cane Craving by Colbie Dunbar

Candy Cane Craving by Colbie Dunbar

Just in time for Valentine’s Day! Candy Cane Craving by Colbie Dunbar was a surprise for me for the genre because this is probably the first time I’ve encountered a male omega who is more witty, confident, and outgoing than the Alpha. It is already a stereotype that Alphas are supposed to be strong, fearless, yada yada and Omegas are supposed to be soft and gentle. So to have an Omega aggressive and who know what he wants right off the bat was a wonderful surprise for me. Gage had me smiling from the get-go.

In Colbie Dunbar’s world “Alpha” is not necessarily some powerful leader. Conan is an accountant working a regular job, has a boss, and makes enough money to be able to afford his own apartment. In contrast, Gage is an Omega who has made enough money to not have to work for more than a year (so far), has a large property he is currently renovating, and can afford to take his time and not do anything for some time to come.

Seemingly it would actually appear as though Gage is the Alpha and Conan, the Omega, but I will trust in Colbie Dunbar’s process. In a nutshell, it seems that the only real distinction I can tell is that it is the Omegas who get pregnant. I love the fact, though, that this book explores the idea of the Omega being top and the Alpha, bottom.

If you are curious about Candy Cane Craving by Colbie Dunbar you can find it on Amazon for $3.99 or free with Kindle Unlimited.

His UnEGGsalted Omega by Lorelei M. Hart and Colbie Dunbar

His UnEGGsalted Omega by Lorelei M. Hart and Colbie Dunbar

His UnEGGsalted Omega by Lorelei M. Hart and Colbie Dunbar was a delight to read. 95% of the book is happy, happy, happy which was quite refreshing. To be honest, there really isn’t that much difference between an MF, MM, or FF romance except for the gender of the main characters. Ultimately, it doesn’t really matter, especially if the society the author created accepts that kind of pairing. In this world created by the authors, MM or MF pairings are commonplace.

I’m not new to reading MM stories but I must confess I was puzzled about the mechanics of male pregnancy. For the omega to be able to get pregnant that would assume that he has the reproductive organs to match, but does that mean that his anal canal is somehow connected to a uterus? Also, in this story, after the babies are born they latch to feed. Latch on what? Does that imply that Aldo had mammary glands that produced milk?

If the intention is for the story to be an MM romance, why would female physical characteristics be imposed on the omegas?

The story establishes some things, though. First, it is the omega partner who gets pregnant. Second, in mixed mating, there is no way to tell what kind of baby/babies will be born and how. Since Kirin is a dragon and Aldo is a chipmunk will they have dragon babies or chipmunk babies? Will they be hybrids of both? Will they be chipmunks that will come out of dragon eggs?

There are some passages that felt overexplained but if you skip over them it’s okay. There are also misused words or two in some sections, but nothing a copy editor who will actually read the whole story cannot easily fix.

Overall, His UnEGGsalted Omega by Lorelei M. Hart and Colbie Dunbar is a feel-good story. You can find this book on Amazon for 4.99 on Jan. 9, 2023, or for free with Kindle Unlimited.

I enjoyed it so much that I looked up the first book and will be reading it soon just so that I get to read about the romance of Abel and Cedric.
