First-ever gathering of home-cooks set on Dec 4!

A pioneering community of home cooks in the country brings the first-ever gathering of home cooks, dubbed “Let’s Cook, Pare! First Out-of-Home Cooking Fair and Grand Family Day!”

The event slated on December 4, Sunday, at the Central Park, Greenfield District in Mandaluyong is in partnership with the Greenfield District Corporation. Let’s Cook, Pare! (LCP) aims to replicate the effort to help its members that it extended at the height of the pandemic.
LCP, a non-government organization that started on Facebook became relevant to the cooking community as quarantine cooking became one of every Filipino’s anxiety outlets.

The Sunday event is supported by Aguila Gourmet Meats, Condura, Fruitas, Glorious, Golden A, Hotel Sogo, Masflex Philippines, McCormick, Midea, Mother Nurture, Phoenix Super LPG, Premium Choice Meatshop, Sweet & Fit Stevia, Tocoms Philippines, Inc. for Russel Hobbs, Koizumi Philippines, and Panasonic Small Appliances, Sunlife Financial, Easy Brand, Save ALL, Recycle PH, Eatsplorations, Malaya Business Insight, Manila Standard, PEPTalk, Made it through Mum, What’s New Philippines, Frenzie, and The New Channel.

LCP event will also highlight the homecooked products and other cooking ingredients and utensils of its homegrown Accredited Sellers, among them, Baba Black Chef, BrownRoots, Cordillera Landing on You (CLOY), Crafty Cuts, Eat Girls, Food Delight, Krav, Mang Itz Kebab, The Bistro Box, Sayonora, Sweetums Tasty Delight.

With a Pinoy Christmas Fiesta theme, a whole day of fun-filled activities awaits LCP members, their families, and the public. Among the activities lined up are the annual 14 Days of Christmas gift-giving, 10 livelihood starter sets for lucky members, a home cooking challenge and demo, learning sessions for home-based entrepreneurs, and so much more! The livelihood starter kits will help 10 LCP private group community members to start their respective home-based businesses to augment their income during this challenging time.

The Let’s Cook, Pare! community became a creative outlet for its members and allowed them to get connected outside of their homes. The members actively participated in community discussions and shared their home-cooked meals, taking advantage of a platform that allows them to flex their ‘creations’ and enjoy their dreams of living a ‘chef-life’.

Aside from helping its members, the LCP was also able to help the country’s SMEs and some corporate brands because of its accessibility online where they were able to sell food and other relevant kitchens/home cooking appliances, items, etc. A number of members here and abroad likewise shared that recipes they got from the community inspired them to start their own food-selling business that allows them to have an alternative source of income.

Unmeat, Anyone?

Unmeat, Anyone?

For dinner, we had unMeat empanadas along with personal servings of shepherd’s pie that my sister made (thanks, Sis!). Both dishes used unMeat, and they were not only delicious but also a healthier alternative to the traditional recipes. I honestly wouldn’t have noticed that they didn’t contain meat!

What is unMeat? UnMeat is a 100% plant-based meat alternative. As a meat lover, I was pleasantly surprised by its taste; it closely resembles the meat dishes I’ve always enjoyed. This personal experience makes me confident in recommending it to you.

If you are thinking of removing beef and pork from your diet but are having a tough time, this product will make the transition much easier. You can use it in a variety of dishes, from stir-fries to pasta sauces. Just remember to cook it as you would cook meat, and you’ll be surprised by the results.

  • This is NOT a paid advertisement for unMeat. Just sharing the joy of delicious discovery.
Economical cooking at home

Economical cooking at home

One of the best things that came about during the lockdown is the onslaught of online cooking videos found across all social media platforms. More and more people are honing their culinary skills by experimenting and trying out new recipes in the kitchen. While this is great, it’s always good to keep a few important things in mind, most especially conserving energy and avoiding food waste when preparing meals for the family.

Here are some useful tips from Solane, one of the country’s leading LPG solutions provider, on saving energy, time and ingredients in the kitchen:

Get your ingredients ready.

Some people tend to prepare the ingredients in the middle of the cooking session while the cooking gas is on. Not only is this a waste of time but also an unnecessary waste of gas. Be sure to prepare all the ingredients ahead of cooking time and put them within your reach as you cook. That way, you don’t need to run around the kitchen to hunt for ingredients, making your cooking time shorter. This will also help you save cooking gas.

Defrost before cooking.

Some of us are probably using our microwave to defrost our frozen food. Doing this consumes a lot of electricity when our aim is to save money on our bills. Instead of using a microwave, take out frozen ingredients ahead of cooking time, place them on the counter, and thaw at room temperature.

Use low heat as much as possible.

If you’re cooking or tenderizing meat by boiling, make sure to cover the pot with the lid and lower the heat as soon as it starts to boil. Leave it simmering until soft and tender. You are making the most of your cooking fuel by doing this.

Choose your burner.

The bigger the burner, the more energy or cooking gas is used. When you’re using a small pan to cook, use a smaller burner. But If you have only one burner or your burners are of the same size, turn down the flame as soon as food starts to boil to maximize cooking gas.

Keep your LPG well-maintained.

Solane LPG tankKeep your household safe by turning off the LPG cylinder valves when not in use. Do a regular maintenance check on your stove and LPG tank such as checking if your burners, regulators, and hose are clean and functioning well and that the LPG tank is in good working condition. Regular inspection of your stove and  LPG is a good safety and energy-saving practice.

Cooking at home is great but remember to be practical and smart about it. Save your time, money, and maximize your cooking gas by following these easy hacks from Solane. For more information, visit www.solane.com.ph.
