Don’t forget to read the guidelines, the waiver, and the recipes! #homefoodieph
Before the live session:
-
- Read the recipes and the tools/equipment list in advance.
- Prepare the purchase list and buy ingredients ahead of time.
- An adult should help in the preparation.
- Prepare the needed ingredients and materials before the session. Make use of the time as a pre-bonding session with the kids participating.
- Make sure the tools and equipment are working and clean.
- Arrange needed tools by recipe unless it is a common tool.
- Pre-measure the ingredients in advance.
- Some notes on the ingredients that need to be pre-measured:
- A bar of Magnolia Cream Cheese is considered as 1 cup so for a 1/2 cup requirement, just cut the product in half.
- Use measuring spoons, solid measuring cups for dry ingredients (marshmallows, breadcrumbs, Magnolia All-Purpose Flour, sugar), and a liquid measuring cup or glass for liquid ingredients (Pure Oil, Cookbest, Golden Fry, corn syrup, water).
- Use a spatula to level when measuring solid ingredients. For liquid ingredients, place measuring cup or glass on a flat surface and read at eye level … you will see two lines, use the lower line as the basis for the amount.
- A coarse or fine grater for Magnolia Quickmelt Cheese is okay to use.
- The size of the Magnolia brown egg should be medium or large.
- The needed pasta should be cooked in advance. Follow package instructions.
- Slicing/cutting of ingredients will be done live so that everyone understands how it should be done.
- Have pot holders/cooking mitts and aprons ready for protection.
- Have a first aid kit ready in case unforeseen cuts or burns happen.
- Read the Waiver and Release of Liability Clause below. Home Foodie assumes the authorized guardian/parent has agreed with the waiver and release of liability if the participant joins the activity.
- For questions and clarification, please leave a comment at bit.ly/HFKKC.
During the live session:
- An adult should be around to supervise.
- For cutting/slicing, either the adults will do this part or have the kids use a plastic knife.
- Kids must wear aprons and long hair should be tied.
- Kids must wash their hands well with soap and water before, during, and after food preparation.
- Kids whose height is at least waist-level above the stovetop/burner can be allowed to do the cooking, subject to adult consent and supervision.
- Separate tools used for raw and cooked items.
- When frying, gently put in the food item to be fried. Do not throw in the pan with the hot oil to prevent burns and fires from happening.
- Cooked items should never come in contact with raw items. Keep these separate.
- Cooked food, if not cooled and stored immediately, should be consumed within four hours.
- Store leftover cooked items and no-bake dessert in covered containers in the chiller. Cookies must be kept in tight containers.
- Cooked items must be consumed in three days.
- Participants with finger cut/injury should have their wounds covered in a bandage and use disposable gloves during the session to prevent potential food safety issues.
- We will try to answer questions as much as we can during the live session given the number of participants. To save time, it is best to read the recipes and materials needed and review the guidelines in advance.

Looking your best every day is definitely a must and the enhanced community quarantine is definitely not an excuse to skip your beauty routine. For those who are working from home and frequently need to attend online meetings, remember that you can skip the fancy skirts and opt for comfy PJs but you definitely can’t put in less effort on your face.
Below are some useful makeup tips to appear smart and crisp for your next Zoom or Facetime meeting:
Look fresh.
You are no longer beating the rush of everyday traffic so the most important tip is to make your skin look healthy and glowing.
To achieve this, apply a small amount of Ever Bilena Pro Flawless Finish Foundation starting from the middle of your face, outwards blending properly using your fingertips or Ever Bilena Blend Me Sponge. This liquid foundation provides full coverage that will give you a flawless finish.
Conceal.
The last thing you would want to look like in your online meeting is tired and sleepless. Cover your dark circles from working overtime or binge-watching your favorite show on Netflix with an ample amount of concealer.
On top of your foundation, apply Ever Bilena Liquid Concealer on the darkest shadows of your eye bags to even out the color of your under eyes. You may also use it to spot conceal your unwanted skin imperfections.
Don’t overdo your eyeshadow.
Look more natural and presentable by going for light or neutral shades. The Ever Bilena Eyeshadow Pink Palette can come in handy as it features six neutral and classic shades that perfectly match your everyday makeup. It is pigmented and blendable for easier application.
Define your eyes.
As much as a perfect shade of eyeshadow does the trick, a gentle swoosh of mascara can also make your eyes look more alive.
Swipe on some EB Advance Lash Define Mascara to visibly define and lengthen your top and bottom lashes with its dual-sided wand and waterproof jet black ink that will definitely make you look awake and more alert.
Add color to your cheeks.
Video calls can make you look pale. Blend a generous amount of Ever Bilena Matte Color Stick over the apples of your cheeks all the way through your cheekbones for a natural-looking flush. The Ever Bilena Matte Color Stick is a multipurpose cream stick that works for the eyes, cheeks, and lips.
Go easy on your lippie.
Be as simple as you can be with your overall makeup including your lippie. Go for neutral shades to make you look more formal. You may use the Ever Bilena Matte Nude Lipsticks that come in six colors to complement your choice of eyeshadow.
After following all these, make sure you sit where there is ample lighting so your workmates can see you clearly. Then, try checking yourself out on your phone or laptop’s camera to see if your makeup appears as desired. If yes, then it’s time to slay that online meeting and impress everyone!
Be work-ready at home with these make-up products and other Ever Bilena, EB Advance, and Kris Life Kit products all available on Ever Bilena’s official Lazada store. Bibingkang malagkit or kumot as my dad used to call it is a rice cake snack that my dad used to love. We would buy a small tray of 8 squares every week. My dad called it kumot because of the layer if coco-caramel on top.
Is it also called biko?
Bibingkang malagkit is also called Biko. The only difference that I can see is that Biko is brown and is often topped with latik instead of coco-caramel sauce. To achieve that brown color, replace the white sugar with brown sugar.
The search is over

one serving size served here as a dessert with a cup of coffee on the side
Our favorite kakanin seller has not been around since the quarantine and when I ordered from someone on Facebook who makes bibingkang malagkit Facebook I was very disappointed at what I received … it was 10×10, as promised but the rice part was barely a centimeter high and the coco-caramel topping was about as thick. It was so thin that the only way to enjoy it was to roll a slice into a log and THEN eating it. It was a waste of money. Therefore, I decided to try making it myself.
I looked at several recipes online and chose the one I thought I could work with and yet I still made changes because I wanted it to look just like the one dad liked.
It took quite some time to make and requires a lot of patience but if you keep at it, you will be quite happy with the end result.
Time to cook!
Below is my version of the bibingkang malagkit. I was surprised that it turned out pretty well … exactly the same as the one dad and I used to buy. Yey! Today I had it for dessert with my breakfast.
FYI, I love using a wok for most of my cooking so for this recipe I still used two woks … a big one for the kakanin and a small one for the sauce topping.
Biko or Bibingkang Malagkit
rice cake made of glutinous rice, sugar, salt, and coconut milk
Course: Breakfast, Dessert, Snack
Cuisine: Filipino
Keyword: bibingka, biko, filipino, rice cake
Servings: 24
Author: Penny Angeles-Tan
big wok
small wok
baking dish
oven
- 1 tbsp. butter for coating the baking dish
Kakanin
- 4 cups malagkit rice also known as glutinous rice
- 1,000 ml. gata coconut milk
- 1.5 cups water
- 1.5 cups sugar white or brown
- 1/4 tsp fine sea salt
Topping
- 200 ml. gata coconut milk
- 1 cup dark brown sugar
Preparing the kakanin
Place the rice in a bowl then wash and drain it. Place enough water to cover and soak for a few hours ... one hour at the very least, overnight at most. Note, that the longer you soak it, the better the rice will cook later.
When you are ready to cook, drain the rice and set aside.
Place the coconut milk and water in a saucepot, set the heat to medium and simmer.
Add the drained rice and stir often to be sure the rice does not burn along the sides of the pot. Continue to cook over medium heat and mixing until the rice has soaked up most of the liquid. Using a large wok makes it easier to mix.
Reduce the heat and add the white sugar and salt to the rice mixture and mix. Make sure the sugar and salt are completely mixed into the rice. You will notice that the rice where the sugar gets mixed in becomes shinier so keep mixing gently. This will take around 10 to 15 minutes, more or less.
Taste the rice every now and then to make sure it is cooked all the way through. You know you are done when the rice mixture is sticky and clumps but separates from the pot easily.
Preparing the coco-caramel sauce topping
Place the remaining 200 ml. coconut milk and the dark brown sugar in a saucepan.
Turn on the stove and mix until completely mixed and the sugar is dissolved.
Turn off the stove and allow to cool for 2 to 5 minutes.
Putting the dish together
Time to bake
Heat your oven to 350F. Some say to preheat before you start cooking but, personally, I usually wait until I am actually going to bake because I cannot predict how long the preparation would take and it would be a waste of gas (or electricity).
Once it has reached 350F place the prepared tray in the oven and bake for 1 hour. The sauce topping will bubble and thicken.
Set aside and allow to cool before serving.
Once your dish has cooled it will look like this:
