Colgate and Palmolive: Household Names of the Filipino Family

Colgate and Palmolive: Household Names of the Filipino Family

Growing up, I often heard the brand names Colgate and Palmolive mentioned at the grocery store and the sari-sari store whenever people purchased toiletries like soap, shampoo, or toothpaste. These brands have become such shopping staples that their names have evolved into common references for these products.

colgate-palmolive philippines logo

The Evolution of Colgate

The word “Colgate” originally referred to the proper noun of the toothpaste brand Colgate. Over time, people began using “Colgate” as a generic term to refer to any brand of toothpaste. Eventually, it evolved into a verb. For instance, mothers and caregivers would ask children, “Nag-Colgate ka na ba?” to find out if they had already brushed their teeth.

Asin, as in!

Colgate has evolved from offering just one type of toothpaste to a wide variety, and the latest addition is Colgate Active Salt.

When I first learned about this new product, I immediately thought of the medicinal qualities of salt and wondered why Colgate had chosen to introduce this innovation. It also made me reflect on Colgate’s commitment to the Filipino community to “deliver superior oral care.”

According to Mr. Danai Sirisuvun, Senior Product Manager of Colgate-Palmolive Philippines, “Filipinos have a strong affinity for the traditional benefits of salt in oral care. Colgate Active Salt combines this natural ingredient with Colgate’s trusted formula. It is a unique and effective toothpaste that is perfect for the whole family, promoting healthy gums and strong teeth with regular brushing.”

Before this variant became available, I was using the toothpaste with activated charcoal. Now, I’m excited to try the Active Salt version and see how well it performs.

Kuwentong Jollibee Valentine Series

Like many of my peers I laughed, anticipated the endings and shed many a tear as I watched these commercials of Jollibee for this season of hearts 2017.

Kuwentong Jollibee Valentine Series:  The Vow

From the moment the scene opened I already had my suspicions about how it would end but the romantic in me denied it and watched with bated breath just to see exactly how it would end.  For those who haven’t seen it I don’t want to spoil it for you so watch the video below first.

This one was 95% silent film and the story was cute, light … it was the story of beauty and the geek.  And the ending was … sigh, wonderful!  My heart just soared.

What happens when Toblerone and a Dairy Queen Blizzard collide?

What happens when Toblerone and a Dairy Queen Blizzard collide?

What happens when Toblerone and a Dairy Queen Blizzard collide? A Toblerone Blizzard is born! #DairyQueenPH rings in the new year with yet again another exciting flavor to spice up its mouthwatering Blizzard collection.  On January 20, Dairy Queen held a blogger event at the Taco Bell Cyberpark Tower in the Araneta Center, Quezon City to roll out its much-awaited #BlizzardoftheMonthPH – the all-new Toblerone Blizzard.

Dairy Queen's Toblerone BlizzardAnother first for Dairy Queen Philippines, #TobleroneBlizzard is a delectable treat of your favorite soft serve ice cream and the well-loved Toblerone, the Swiss brand of triangular chocolate goodness! The Toblerone Blizzard, however, is only available for a limited time, so what are you waiting for?

Three Toblerone Blizzard flavors

The successful and fun blogger event got everyone hooked on this latest addition to Dairy Queen’s bevy of Blizzard flavors! Everyone got to try the first-ever Toblerone Blizzard, which comes in three insanely good flavors:

Strawberry toblerone blizzard, chocolate chip toblerone blizzard, and double fudge toblerone blizzard

Strawberry Toblerone blizzard, chocolate chip Toblerone blizzard, and double fudge Toblerone blizzard

Strawberry Toblerone Blizzard

strawberry toblerone blizzardThe Strawberry Toblerone Blizzard is made with Dairy Queen’s signature soft serve and chunky Toblerone bits, made sweeter by a delicious swirl of strawberry syrup on top.

My niece loves this!  But then, she really is a strawberry kinda gal. 🙂

Chocolate Chip Toblerone Blizzard

chocolate chip toblerone blizzardWho can resist the classic Chocolate Chip Toblerone Blizzard that combines Toblerone and your favorite soft serve, with an extra coating of chocolate syrup as a bonus?

What I like about this is the texture.  Over the other two, this one is more grainy and feels like it even has cookie bits in it (it could just be me) so every mouthful is fun.

double fudge toblerone blizzardDouble Fudge Toblerone Blizzard

And last but not least, Double Fudge Toblerone Blizzard is for those who delight in all things chocolate, with its double cocoa fudge mixed into the delicious Dairy Queen soft serve with bits of Toblerone.

I usually get a mudpie when I go to Dairy Queen so the double fudge Toblerone Blizzard was an instant win for me. 😀

A Beauty Queen joins the party

Bb. Pilipinas Grand International 2016, Ms. Nicole Cordoves graced the event and told us how much she loved eating Dairy Queen and how she does not diet at all.  So unfair!

Dairy Queen Blizzard heart-shaped Valentine ice cream cake

Dairy Queen's heart-shaped Valentine ice cream cakeDairy Queen’s Valentine’s offering is this heart-shaped Valentine’s cake.  It is made with soft-serve vanilla ice cream but what makes it different from other ice cream cakes is this … it is a TOBLERONE BLIZZARD ice cream cake!  Chopped Toblerone bits can be found in every mouthful of this delectable treat.

The Toblerone Blizzard ice cream cake came as a surprise to me.  Double Fudge soft serve ice cream + shaved Toblerone swiss chocolate + Toblerone squares … CHOCOLATE OVERLOAD!

But what made this cake extra special for me was that it was, in effect, a deconstructed Toblerone Blizzard.  We all know how the Blizzard is made.  Take soft serve ice cream, top it with ingredients, then give it a spin in their mixer, and voila!  You have a Blizzard.

The Toblerone Blizzard cake’s ice cream part has minimal fillings and then loads of toppings.  Since we (I, at least) scoop from top to bottom, it meant that I was getting an equal amount of topping, filling, and ice cream in one bite.  Delish!  It also meant that I could choose to have more Toblerone at any part of my “meal”. 😀  As you might have guessed, I ate the triangles first. 😀

Valentine Dilly Bar

valentine-dilly-barNot to be left behind is the Valentine Dilly Bar … vanilla ice cream coated in a chocolate shell.  For Valentine, it comes in three colors – pink, green, and orange.

The Dairy Queen Dilly Bar is a perfect ending for that romantic date for two.  It does not have Toblerone in it but what better way to say “I love you” than with a heart-shaped (affordable) treat?

Visit the nearest Dairy Queen branch to you and try out the new Toblerone Blizzard — available up to March 22, 2017, only.

Our little Star loves Mamypoko pants for girls

Our little Star loves Mamypoko pants for girls

I’ve seen Mamypoko Diapers in the grocery for some time but I’ve always ignored it in favor of the more popular brands or the less expensive brands. Like most consumers I often choose products based on price and reputation.

Estelle the Little StarWhen Star was a baby it wasn’t that big a deal, but as she got older like most toddlers she started to become precocious and naughty.  Whenever possible she would peel off the tape of her diapers and take it off laughing.

She also needed diapers less.  For some time now the only time we would put a diaper on her is when she goes to bed (to sleep) and when we go out. This made us wonder why she kept trying to take her diaper off (considering she didn’t wear them so often anymore) and we realized it was because it was causing a diaper rash which was either itchy or painful.  Poor baby!

For some time we stopped putting her in diapers but it was difficult to manage, especially at night when she would wet her bed in her sleep.  So, despite our better judgement, we decided to try diapers again, if only for when she goes to bed.

So I went to the grocery and at a whim picked up a pack of Mamypoko Easy to Wear Pants.

I remember when my daughter was a baby they had something similar but they were called “pull-ups” because, I suppose, you just pulled them up like pants.

With Mamypoko Pants there was no tape to worry about.  Just wear them like you would underpants and, voila!  your baby is wearing a disposable diaper.  However, figuring out which way was front was a challenge.  To this day, I still have to hold them out and then pray that I don’t put it on her the wrong way.

Mamypoko Pants for Girls

During Lazada’s online revolution last year (2016) I discovered Mamypoko Pants for Girls.  Because I purchased it from Lazada it was so much cheaper than buying it from the grocery and I didn’t have to leave the house to get it.  Sure there is a little bit of a wait … I ordered in the morning and it arrived the day after.  But it also meant that I didn’t have to brave the traffic and the long lines at the grocery.

If all things were equal and I had to choose between the regular Mamypoko Pants and Mamypoko Pants for Girls I would definitely get the latter … even if it is pink (which is my least favorite color, hyuk!) because, let’s face it … it was designed specifically for a little girl. 🙂

Why will we keep buying Mamypoko Pants for Girls?

Star displaying the back of her Mamypoko Pants for Girls

Star displaying the back of her Mamypoko Pants for Girls

All the diaper commercials say mostly the same thing but this is the first time we’ve actually experienced using one that surpassed our expectations.

Eyecatching design

This batch of diapers came with a Winnie the Pooh design that our little Star just loves.  What we like, too, is that the design does not bleed even when the diaper is full.

As the name suggests Mamypoko Pants for Girls is designed for girls which is why it comes in pink, making it easier to spot on the grocery shelves when stacked beside other brands.

Easy to use

Mamypoko Pants for Girls back

Mamypoko Pants for Girls has a label that indicates front from back so there is no way (short of inattention) for us to put it on her backwards.

Mamypoko Pants for Girls are pull ups, not secured with tape on the sides, which means we just pull them up her legs like pants making them easy to put on and take off.

Taking them off like pants is important for us because Star is at that age where she is already potty trained so when she is awake she prefers to pee (and poop!) in the toilet rather than in her pants so, whenever possible, even if she is wearing her diaper, she asks to be brought to the toilet to pee.  With Mamypoko Pants for Girls we can just pull them down like her undies then pull them back on again when she’s done.

Mamypoko Pants for Girls sealing tape

sealing tape

What my daughter likes, though, is that the sides of the diaper can just be torn off along the seam when we want to dispose of the diaper when removing it.  This is particularly important when the diaper has poop in it.  We don’t want that mess touching Star’s legs on the way down, after all.

In addition, the diaper has a strip of clear tape with a tab that you peel off (except for the end) and then reattach to hold the diaper closed when you roll it up for disposal after use.  It is very well attached so it won’t come off accidentally.  And, the tab is designed in such a way that curious toddler fingers will not notice it immediately and pull on it. 😀

Hypoallergenic

Unlike one other brand we’ve tried, Mamypoko Pants for Girls does not cause an adverse reaction to Star’s skin.

Very absorbent

After several hours of wearing her diaper we were wondering why Star was not complaining yet about her diaper so we had to check.  Her diaper was so full that the absorbency gel was already thick, bulky, and cold on the outside … and because we were worried about diaper rash we hurriedly removed the diaper to wash her.  Imagine our surprise when we removed the diaper to find her and it completely dry.

The diaper was several times heavier (and thicker!) than it was at the beginning but when you touch the pad itself no moisture could be found.  When we touched Star’s bottom, it was dry, too.  Amazing!

Since this diaper was made especially for girls it meant that the diaper was designed to give the most absorbancy where it was needed most.  We loved it so much that we posted a review on the product on its product page.

Mamypoko product review

Conclusion

Mamypoko Pants for GirlsSo if you have a little girl like we do you may want to try out Mamypoko Pants for Girls.  It is one of the best purchases I made for Star, and I am sure you would feel the same once you try it, too. 🙂

Great finds for the family at Lazada

Great finds for the family at Lazada

The end of the online revolution draws near but there is still time to get some great finds that could finish up your Christmas list.  Here are a few that I spotted that I think you might enjoy, too. 🙂

Tuxun Mini Karaoke K068 Wireless Bluetooth Microphone with Mic Speaker (Gold)

Let’s admit it, Filipinos LOVE to sing … and Christmas parties (or any old party, for that matter) are just not complete without someone rocking the mic … preferably everyone. 😀

Now here is a common scenario … not enough mics to go around!  Guess what?  That is not a problem anymore if you have this baby … the Tuxun Mini Karaoke K068 Wireless Bluetooth Microphone. It comes in two (2) colors: gold and rose gold.  I loved it so much that I bought one of each! 😀

This is what the description says:

  • Built-in high-quality chipset, it produces excellent sound quality with reverberation (echo).
  • No need to aim at the microphone, it can capture your voice with a pickup hole (translation:  it is not unidirectional.  It can pick up sound from the top and sides).
  • the effect is much like KTV, you will feel liking being on the scene of karaoke.
  • It supports almost all singing software no matter on the phone or on the computer (translation: it is compatible with most karaoke apps, whether for your tablet, phone, or computer).
  • With a 3.5mm audio jack, it can connect with Android, iOS phone, etc. (translation: you can connect it to your Android or iOS device via an audio jack).
  • Wireless Connection: You can connect with your phone with cable or Bluetooth (translation:  you can connect either via wired (audio jack) or wireless (Bluetooth) connection).
  • You can practice singing, listen to music, and record songs without going to KTV (it is a wireless mic so, really, you can practice anywhere).

Package contents:

  • egg-like carrying case
  • 3.5mm audio jack cable
  • micro USB charging cable
  • manual

The manual that comes with the package is in Chinese (I believe) and I could not understand a word of it so I searched for an English manual online.  Click here to download the English manual.

My personal experience:

My nephew loves to invite friends over on the weekend to use my Major HD-10 Platinum Karaoke and we only have 1 (wired) mic. With the Tuxun Wireless Mic, I would sneak up on him and suddenly sing a duet. When he heard my voice magnified he was quite surprised because the sound came from behind him, not in front.

Karaoke K068 Wireless Bluetooth Microphone controlsTake a look at the Tuxun Mini Karaoke K068 Wireless Bluetooth Microphone and you will notice something immediately … it has an unusual shape for a mic.  As a matter of fact, the first time I saw it I thought it was a flashlight!  Turns out the wide base is actually the speaker.

  • The top switch-slide is the volume control.
  • The middle switch-slide is the echo control.
  • The bottom button is not only the power button, it is also the button you press for pairing the mic with your device via Bluetooth

Does it really pair with Karaoke software?

I’ll be honest with you … I have no idea.  I tried to use it with Smule but I couldn’t get it to work the way I wanted to.  But that does not mean it won’t work with others, it just means I haven’t tried it with others yet. 😀

Sanosan Products

For baby and for you.

Sanosan Lotion, Bath and Shampoo, and Oil

Sanosan Lotion, Bath and Shampoo, and Oil

bubu-and-meAnyone with children will tell you that babies have very sensitive skin.  This means that we cannot use just any old product on her.

We’ve tried several brands, from the brands available in the local groceries to products that arrive from relatives who send over balikbayan boxes.

Lately, though, we have tried some brands we have not heard of before until now, and one of those brands is Sanosan.  I must confess, though, that we do not believe in using lotion and oil on a baby’s skin … mostly because in most cases they do not really have any dry skin at that young age.

I used the Sanosan Baby Oil to remove my makeup and it works like a dream!  The Sanosan Baby lotion I set aside for use later when it turns cold and we start to experience dry skin … yes, Bubu included.

Sanosan Baby Shampoo

Sanosan Baby shampoo has a mild scent and is very gentle on our Bubu’s delicate skin.  It is a clear, colorless liquid that froths easily so we do not need to use much to get scalp and hair clean.

  • Includes beneficial ingredients such as olive extract and lactoprotein
  • Conditions the scalp
  • Prevents dryness
  • Clinically approved
  • Colorant free
  • Sanosan baby shampoo does not contain surfactants that impair the natural protective function of the eye

It comes in an attractive powder blue container designed with slip-proof grips on the side making it easier to hang on to the bottle even with wet hands.

Sanosan gives the baby the best possible care.  It uses olive oil and hydrolyzed milk protein which are natural ingredients that provide optimum care, cleansing, and protection that nourishes your baby’s skin better.

All Sanosan products are hypoallergenic and free from parabens and dyes. Pamper yourself and your little sweetheart with Sanosan on a regular basis and experience the daily delights of unique, natural, and gentle care.

For most of the day, our feet are trapped in shoes.  For some of us, we spend most of our time on our feet.  Our feet just go through so much punishment!  Consequently, we find, later that our feet are covered in calluses and dry skin.

I am lucky enough that my feet are not in such bad shape but sometimes I would be surprised to find my heels snagging on my blanket and I realize that it is time for another foot spa.

Having a foot spa, when done often could turn out expensive so here is (what I think) is a better (more economical and more efficient) solution.  And using it is easy, too!  Watch this video below just to see how easy it is to use this product.

Veet Hair Removal Cream for Sensitive Skin

Veet Hair Removal Cream for Sensitive Skin

Veet Hair Removal Cream for Sensitive Skin

Most modern women (myself included) today worry about the unsightly hair growth in our armpits and other parts of the body (such as on the arms, legs, and face).  Most either pluck or shave.  One can be painful while the other causes the hair to grow back faster and thicker and tends to darken the skin.

The solutions we are often left with: laser treatment, threading, and waxing.  These solutions are not cheap.  So what solution is left?  Depilatory creams or lotions like Veet.

I have used Veet in the past and it is so easy to use that it is often my go-to product when I don’t have time (or money) to go to the waxing salon.

  1. Wash and clean the area you want to remove hair from.
  2. Pat dry so that the area is no longer wet.
  3. Squeeze some Veet on the spatula and smooth over the area you want to depilate.
  4. Let it stay for 5 to 10 minutes.
  5. Use the spatula to remove the product from your skin.  You will see the hairs come off with the cream.
  6. Use a soft sponge or washcloth to remove the cream if the spatula is too abrasive.  I like to wet the sponge or cloth with warm water first.
  7. If needed, you can leave the cream on longer before fully removing it. Do not exceed 6 minutes, as your skin will likely become irritated and produce a painful burning sensation.

The result?  Soft, smooth, hairless skin.  No-fuss, no mess, no worries!  Try it for yourself!  One tube goes a long way.  Depending on how many areas you want to depilate, one tube of Veet can last for several months.

  • Works close to the root even on short hair
  • Preparation: 5-10 minutes
  • Enriched with Aloe Vera and Vitamin E
  • Duration: smoothness for up to a week
  • Softer hair regrowth
  • Body Area: Legs, Bikini Line, Underarms, Arms
  • FREE: Travel-size Veet Hair Removal Cream

Precious Mango Tango Massage Oil

Precious Mango Tango Massage Oil and Precious Blue Ginger Aroma Fragrance Mist

Precious Mango Tango Massage Oil and Precious Blue Ginger Aroma Fragrance Mist

My left shoulder to hand has been hurting like the dickens for days now.  when this happens I usually just ignore it but occasionally I call on Ashley, my favorite therapist from Asian Massage to massage me instead.

They often use mineral oil when they give a massage but they usually ask for their clients’ preference also. Sometimes I use lotion but other times I provide my own oil. On her next visit (probably later tonight!) I will try the Precious Mango Tango Massage Oil.  The mango scent is strong but not overpowering, which is good. I won’t smell like a fruit salad. D

  • precious massage oil
  • blend of essential oils
  • refreshing and relaxing
  • can bring emotional balance to the body

The Precious Blue Ginger Aroma Frangrance Mist will give the room that spa smell that will help me relax even more.  That’s one of the missing elements when I have a home service massage … the spa smell. :). The only thing missing would be a waterfall or chime music playing in the background.

It not only makes the air smell good it also acts as a deodorizer, eliminating bad smells in the air.

  • precious aroma fragrance mist
  • refreshing and relaxing
  • an elegant way of scenting environment
  • contain odor neutralizing compound

Precious All Natural Pain-Away Pad

If you have ever injured yourself or suffered from intense shoulder pain then you (like I) have used hot and cold compress pads.  I’ve used versions that had the metal “coin” you flip inside to activate the gel to make it hot.  I’ve used the versions you either microwave (for hot) or stick in the freezer (for cold).  The one thing common about all these is that they were just that … a hot pad or a cold pad.

Precious came up with a revolutionary product called the Precious all Natural Pain-Away Pad.

Precious All Natural Pain-Away Pad

Precious All Natural Pain-Away Pad

Unlike other hot and cold compresses, this one comes filled with special herbs combined to give you much-needed pain relief.  Even as I opened the package I could smell the eucalyptus that must be part of the mixed herbs.

  • Hot and cold compress using your microwave or steamer at home
  • Made of all-natural herbal seed and aromatic herbs
  • 100% natural aromatherapy herbal heat pillow
  • Moist heat therapy and dry cold therapy with aromatherapy
  • Best for joint pains and spasms
  • Helps remove stress
  • Hot herbal pillow help relax stiff muscles
  • Good for back pain and arthritis

How to use:

  1. To heat it up you could either put it (the green package that smells really nice) in the microwave or steam it.  Directions could be found in the package.
  2. To freeze it, just place it in the freezer for a few hours.
  3. After you have either heated or frozen it to your needs place it in the cloth bag that comes with the package.
  4. Apply to the affected area (like your shoulder or neck) and just relax.

Easy, right?  And best of all, it is available at Lazada at a very affordable price!

Miss Saigon, no longer just the movie in my mind

Miss Saigon, no longer just the movie in my mind

Anyone who knows me well can tell you that I LOVE musicals, and of the many musicals I have watched (and/or listened to) over the years Miss Saigon is quite possibly on the top of the list.  I love it so much that I often find myself singing duets of songs from the soundtrack on Smule. 🙂

One of the first duets I did on Smule was The Movie In My Mind with a wonderful singer called Falsetto Musika.  I could only wish I had his range.  I know I could have done better but I think I did a decent job considering I had laryngitis at the time so I couldn’t really belt … and the dogs outside were barking in the background (hopefully not at me). 😀

Enough about me, though.  Let’s talk about Miss Saigon.

The Movie In My Mind

I have wanted to watch Miss Saigon from day 1.  When it first ran, they only performed in Drury Lane in London miles and miles away … beyond my powers to watch.  The desire to watch it only increased with the samples we were given such as Lea Salonga and Simon Bowman’s performance of Sun and Moon and The Last Night of the World.

Sun and Moon

The Last Night of the World

And after watching those and other videos and listening to the soundtrack the desire to watch Miss Saigon became even stronger and with the passing of the years my desire has not waned.

Later it finally made its way here to the Philippines (with Lea Salonga as Kim) and I really, REALLY wanted to watch but just couldn’t afford the tickets.  And I thought once again … “I hope they come up with a movie version of this so I could watch it”.

And after 25 years of waiting the movie in my mind is finally the movie I can watch.

25 years of waiting for Ms. Saigon

Miss Saigon's 25th anniversary performanceI rushed to SM Megamall from my class to meet my friend, Kasuy, and catch Miss Saigon in Megamall’s Cinema 5 before the show started at 5:05 pm.  Since I took an Uberpool instead of UberX the trip took longer than expected but I made it!  Huffing and puffing, I made it with a few minutes to spare before the movie curtains rolled up.

The cramps, the mild asthma attack … it was all worth it.  I was transfixed on the screen and singing in my head with all the songs as I finally got to watch MISS SAIGON.

The cast was different and there were a few adjustments to the lyrics but the story remained the same.  The 25th-anniversary performance of Miss Saigon met my expectations and then some.

Miss Saigon is a retelling of the story of Madame Butterfly which was set in feudal Japan.  It tackles, instead, the trials of war during the Vietnam war and revolves around the characters Kim and Chris.  I was so involved in the story that I often found myself chuckling in amusement or choking in sadness with my tears streaming down my cheeks.

I was awed at the cinematography, the lighting, the set design.  I was equally awed at the choreography, the singing … and suffice it to say I was awed by the acting.

The actors

Being the super fan that I am I couldn’t help but compare the actors with the original cast, after all, Lea Salonga and Simon Bowman are tough acts to follow.

In my personal opinion, Eva Noblezada (who plays Kim) did an excellent job and sounded a lot like Lea back in the day.  She has a very sweet voice and she acts like she isn’t acting, which made it easier for us to relate to her character.

Now and then, I caught a glimpse of Kim’s Lea which for me was a good thing because it meant that I focused more on the character and not on the actress.

Chris was played by Alistair Brammer and he perfectly depicted the “sensitive, disillusioned soul” who fell in love with Kim. Vocally I would say he actually sang better than Simon Bowman. 🙂

The phenomenal acting of Rachel Ann Go, as Gigi, came as no surprise.  While part of us wished Isay Alvarez who was the original actress in the role was in the cast, Rachel did not disappoint.  As a matter of fact, she was so good she made my arm hair stand on end.

Jon Jon Briones as the Engineer did a bang-up job and Jonathan Pryce would have been proud.  His depiction of the role was definitely very Asian and, in my opinion, was more sleazy and playful.  Each person who has played The Engineer has placed their own unique stamp on the role and Jon Jon has certainly made himself memorable to me.

Was it better than Jonathan Pryce’s?  I wouldn’t say that.  I would, however, say, it is different … in a good way.  As Jonathan Pryce even said in the song when Jon Jon asks “am I good?” and he responded, “yeah, you learned it from me.”  Cheeky! Lol!

The Gala Finale

After the 2nd intermission, the screens start to brighten and we see the silhouette of Kim, the same pose she had when the play started.  But this time when she raised her head and removed her hat we (the audience) saw … Lea.

The gasps, the applause, the joy!  I will confess that I had hoped she would appear and the show did not disappoint.  After she sings a duet with Rachel Ann Go … The Movie In My Mind, which brought the house down.

And then Lea goes into a little spiel and says (I paraphrase) … in playing Kim for Miss Saigon she has performed with many Chrises but we never forget our first … and from the wings steps out Simon Bowman – to the hoots and applause of the audience.  They then proceed to sing (and re-enact) The Last Night of the World, complete with smooches. 😀

Out of the darkness steps out Alistair and Eva, and they join Simon and Lea in the duet (yes, including the smooching, lol!) At the high point of the song, the couples switch partners and Lea ends up with Alistair and, yes, the smooching continued, while Simon and Eva settled on hugs. 😀

It was hilarious and unexpected!  But I don’t think anyone took offense.  I certainly wasn’t offended.  I was even laughing along with my friend and said, “nakakarami na si Lea ah!” 😀

The last song of the night was by Jonathan Pryce as The Engineer singing The American Dream.  Halfway through the song, Jon Jon joins him and from the back in a car enters Alain Boublil, Claude-Michel Schonberg, and Cameron MacIntosh.
