Plastic Credits Are Booming. This Platform Wants to Keep It Honest.

Plastic Credits Are Booming. This Platform Wants to Keep It Honest.

A new global resource aims to bring transparency and credibility to the global plastic crisis’ rapidly growing solution: plastic credits.

In 2018, a German brand producing vegan condoms, Einhorn, contacted a young ocean impact organisation, Seven Clean Seas, with a curious request. “We want to be as good-for-the-world as possible, but we can’t avoid plastic in our packaging. Can we pay you to remove the same amount of plastic from the environment?” The resulting collaboration may have been the world’s first informal plastic credit transaction, years before the concept gained widespread attention.

Now, almost seven years later, the world has changed. And so has the market. Plastic credits have evolved from a fringe concept to a much-needed part of the solution. Seven Clean Seas, having built one of the leading consultancy teams in the waste reduction sector, has worked with global brands, governments, and events – including The Economist Group and FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 (The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy) – to develop rigorous plastic footprinting, reduction strategies, and recovery solutions.

Amid this momentum, plasticcredits.org launches as a new hub designed to keep the fast-growing market grounded in facts and integrity. Developed by the team behind Seven Clean Seas, the platform explains the fundamentals of plastic credits: what they are, how they’re generated and verified, which standards exist, and why high-integrity plastic crediting projects matter.

The launch follows a growing global interest, amplified by a 2024 World Bank report that endorsed plastic credits as a legitimate financing mechanism, if deployed responsibly. The publication served as a clear validation of the concept, but also a warning: without standards and transparency, the plastic credit market could repeat the missteps of the voluntary carbon market.

“People are waking up to the power of plastic credits—but also the risks,” said Seven Clean Seas CEO and Founder, Tom Peacock-Nazil. “We built plasticcredits.org to fill the knowledge gap and ensure that the right information is accessible before the market moves too fast.”

Plasticcredits.org is a knowledge-first resource. Its mission is to help sustainability professionals, corporate leaders, NGOs, and individuals alike make informed decisions by cutting through jargon, demystifying key processes, and highlighting what quality and impact really mean in this space.

The platform represents a strategic step in market maturity, offering a clear and unbiased view at a time when clarity is urgently needed.

“As the world scrambles for solutions to the plastic crisis, this is our invitation to the industry. Let’s get this right from the start.”

WA Wheatbelt to host Rabobank business transition and succession planning information sessions

WA Wheatbelt to host Rabobank business transition and succession planning information sessions

WA Wheatbelt-based primary producers have the opportunity to develop skills to assist with family farm succession and business transition at complimentary Rabo Client Council-hosted information sessions.

The practical Business Transition and Succession Planning information sessions will be held in Narrogin, Northam and Dalwallinu in early August.

The initiative has been led and funded by food and agribusiness banking specialist Rabobank’s Rabo Client Councils, a group of innovative, forward-thinking clients who are passionate about making a difference in their communities and support a range of activities designed to make a meaningful impact on the vibrancy and resilience of rural Australia.

The interactive sessions – which are free of charge – offer practical information, such as why family and business communication can be difficult and how to improve it, what makes a meeting work and how to take account of differing family goals.

The information sessions – which will be limited to 30 participants each and are not restricted to the bank’s clients – will be presented by content and facilitator partner, Transition Partners director Jim Benson.

Rabobank state manager for Western Australia Steve Kelly said considering the “complexities and challenges of generational transitions, it is important for family farming enterprises to develop knowledge in planning for business change and succession”.

Mr Kelly said “charting a course through this transition goes beyond merely addressing legal and financial matters – it necessitates creating plans and strategies that preserve the core values of the family farm and ensure the business’s long-term success”.

The session content includes how to start the conversation about business succession, Mr Kelly said. “During these sessions, participants will delve into key aspects of organising their initial meeting to discuss next steps in management, business, property and wealth transition. Additionally, practical tools will be offered to aid in the planning process, resolve family and business conflicts and address family-related issues,” he said.

The information sessions provide a supportive environment for couples and family members to attend together. These sessions offer farmers an opportunity to step away from their farm activities and engage in collective learning experiences.

Mr Kelly said initiating proactive planning is important for ensuring a smooth business transition. “Starting succession planning early is important, as postponing the process and essential discussions can lead to conflicts due to differing individual expectations.”

The Rabo Client Council network is focussed on developing meaningful grassroots initiatives to support key themes focusing on building industry capacity, championing rural wellbeing, sustainability and strengthening the rural-urban connection.

Mr Kelly said the information sessions are intended to empower primary producers and help provide them with essential tools for achieving success.

“These sessions provide primary producers with the key tools to develop continuity plans, helping ensure the long-term success of family farming enterprises for future generations. Moreover, the positive impact extends beyond individual farms, bolstering rural and regional communities and enhancing the resilience of the local agricultural sector.”

Since launching the program in 2024, the Rabo Client Councils have delivered 13 of these sessions across the country, to date providing family farm succession and business transition skills and tools to over 300 participants.

“If you’re interested in attending a session, keen to meet other progressive farming families and develop new skills, confirm your place before the sessions are fully allocated,” Mr Kelly said.

Information session details:

Bookshelf PH Launches Sari-sari Stories: Book of Pride

Bookshelf PH Launches Sari-sari Stories: Book of Pride

Bookshelf PH launched Sari-sari Stories: Book of Pride on June 11, 2025, featuring eight original stories by Filipino authors that celebrate LGBTQIA+ love, identity, and courage. Released for Pride Month, the anthology continues the publisher’s mission to amplify diverse voices in Philippine literature.

Independent publisher Bookshelf PH officially launched the latest installment of the Sari Sari Stories Collection: Book of Pride, at the SM Podium Book Nook last June 11, 2025.

The new anthology features eight original stories from Filipino authors that explore themes of love, identity, and courage within the LGBTQIA+ community. Weaving together a multi-genre experience, spanning from gripping mysteries to heart-wrenching dramas, the collection highlights individual journeys amid a collective advocacy for equality.

Sari-Sari Stories: Book of Pride authors, artists and editorial team with the Bookshelf PH staff

During the launch, the attending authors reflected on the inspiration behind their work. They underscored that the stories primarily centering on queer narratives also hold a broader message of self-acceptance and belonging.

“As we continuously tell diverse stories, this book not only aims to educate but also resonate with anyone who has ever struggled to be seen, heard, or loved for who they truly are,” Michelle Dulinayan, Managing Editor of Bookshelf PH.

The Book of Pride is the third entry of Bookshelf PH’s Sari-Sari Stories Collection, a diverse compendium of Filipino culture told only from the lens of Filipino authors. This new selection is written by eight local authors emerging in the Philippine writing scene: Lucky Charles N. Historia, Shanelle B. Recheta, Kae Espejo, JsslAwra, Evan Orias, Zerodegreescelsius, Dhan Duringo, and Jastine Beatrice Yap. Released as an homage for Pride Month this June, Bookshelf PH and its authors continue to tackle their mission of inclusive storytelling.

“We want this to be a warm embrace for all of the stories that we keep hidden—a message that there exists no light we must step away from but only one that shines within each of us if we allow it to,” Monette Quioge, Managing Partner of Bookshelf PH, says.

Sari-sari Stories: Book of Pride is now available on Bookshelf PH’s website (bookshelf.com.ph) and major e-commerce platforms.

“This partnership reflects our shared belief that digital skills are a powerful driver of opportunity and inclusion,” said Sandra Visscher, Executive Director of UNICEF Luxembourg.“By collaborating with Bitget, we want to provide adolescents and young people with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to shape their own futures. Innovation should be a force for inclusion, opening doors, broadening horizons, and ensuring that technology works for everyone, everywhere.”

In a move to extend the ecosystem’s reach, Bitget will also aim to introduce UNICEF to leading blockchain protocols and developers from across the Web3 landscape to participate in the educational initiative. These contributors could serve as mentors and partners, offering diverse perspectives and possibilities for blockchain technologies.

“Emerging technologies should not be reserved for the privileged few—they must be introduced early and equitably. Blockchain, with its real-world use case and potential for social good, is one of the most powerful tools we can give to our younger generation to build products that change the way we look at modern society. With Blockchain4Her, what began as a mission to empower hundreds of women has scaled into a global movement to educate thousands of girls. This is the kind of scale and impact blockchain was built for,” said Gracy Chen, CEO at Bitget.

Every year, adolescent girls and young women in low and middle-income countries miss out on USD 15 billion in economic opportunities due to a gap in internet access and digital skills relative to their male peers. With 90 per cent of jobs today requiring digital competencies, the Game Changers Coalition responds to the urgency of closing the gender digital skills gap.

Together, Bitget and UNICEF are working to build a scalable, inclusive model that equips young women with the tools to navigate and shape the digital economy of tomorrow.

As part of the Game Changers Coalition, Bitget joins the Global Video Game Coalition, Micron Foundation and ecosystem builders – Women in Games in a shared ambition to reach 1.1 million girls by 2027, with learning and skills-building opportunities.

With the help of Bitget Academy, and support from the $10M initiative Blockchain4Her, Bitget plans to enhance digital literacy and financial independence among women taught to them at a young age.

Bitget’s Blockchain4Her initiative has previously supported women through mentorship programs, funding opportunities, and educational resources.

Together, Bitget and UNICEF Luxembourg aim to empower a new generation of girls with the knowledge and skills they need to participate actively in the evolving crypto economy.
