The opportunity to give back by doing Basketball Art is a dream come true for me. This deal had been in the works for a few months, and finally, I am so happy and proud to say that I am now part of the Nippon family as an ambassador through #EveryCourtCanDream

For starters, we get to paint 1,000 courts. Would you like one of them to be yours? We have no system yet in who we should really pick first so stay tuned for all the info on my YouTube channel. #bornday #Every1CanDream what’s your dream? #Whosnext #nipponpaintph @pinoyhoops #nippongang

Paint Party is a whole day event (from 9 am to 12mn) and everyone (not just the artists) is welcome to join the fun and paint.  This event is sponsored by Nippon Paint with the cooperation of What?, Chooks to Go, Nike, MNL Kingpin, Kingscourt, STR8, and Wilson. #paintparty

Biggest Philippine International Trade Event for 2019

Biggest Philippine International Trade Event for 2019

The Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) Philippines, which is the marketing and promotions arm of the Department of Tourism (DOT), is aiming to boost tourism in the country. To achieve this, it will host the Philippine Travel Exchange (PHITEX) and the MICE Buyers Invitational (MICECONnect) from October 20 to 27. These events are designed to promote the Philippines as a premier tourist destination for both leisure travel and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibits/Events).

Phitex

Now in its 18th year, PHITEX is recognized as the largest travel trade event in the country, featuring nearly 200 sellers and 200 buyers. The main highlight of the event is a one-and-a-half-day business-to-business (B2B) session that facilitates discussions between foreign buyers and local sellers. This session aims to promote tourism-related conversations among participants and create new business opportunities.

Participants also attended the PHITEX educational seminar, where industry leaders discussed new trends in tourism marketing and strategies for both mature and emerging markets. The discussions were centered around the theme “Philippine Tourism: Trailblazing Responsible Travel and Inclusive Growth.”

Insights were shared by Thomas Graham, Co-Founder of Make A Difference (MAD) Travel; Carlos Mori Rodriguez, Chief Innovation Officer of EON The Stakeholder Relations Group; and Nelly Nuezca Dillera, CESO III, Deputy Executive Director of the Philippine Trade Training Center – Global MSME Academy. They concluded the seminar on how the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is developing capabilities for halal development and certification.

PHITEX is an annual event designed to support stakeholders in the travel trade industry. Rather than operating as individual sellers, we provide a platform for them to connect with hundreds of buyers from around the world in one venue, saving them valuable time and money.

The event also ensures that buyers are well-informed and prepared by offering a comprehensive overview of various destinations and packages that they can sell to consumers, whether as individual tours or bundled options.

MICECONnect 2019

MiceConnect2019

MICECONnect 2019 aims to promote the Philippine MICE industry by gathering suppliers to showcase the country as a premier destination for international events and conferences.

Happening alongside PHITEX, MICECONnect 2019 continues a two-year program designed as a comprehensive educational seminar for local MICE stakeholders. The aim is to help them learn about new and effective global trends, approaches, and methods. This year’s focus is on creating business networking opportunities to further develop the country’s MICE industry.

MICECONnect 2019 will also feature B2B sessions for both Philippine and international MICE buyers, as well as inspections of hotels and MICE venues. Additionally, delegates attending MICECONnect will have the opportunity to participate in post-event tours, showcasing some of the country’s premier MICE destinations, including Iloilo City, Bacolod, Davao, Boracay, Cebu, Bohol, Palawan, Tagaytay, Manila, and Batangas.

Both PHITEX and MICECONnect 2019 play a crucial role in enabling the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) to support and raise awareness of sustainable community-based tourism. In addition to showcasing the Philippines’ unique offerings, TPB is dedicated to protecting natural resources and ensuring that tourism benefits both directly and indirectly impacted communities. This commitment aligns with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, reinforcing TPB’s dedication to sustainable tourism and its contribution to the Department of Tourism’s objectives.

Cara warmly welcomed all attendees to this event, Nippon Paint AYDAPH2019, which officially kickstarted the competition.  Attendees were composed of college/university deans and program chairs, representatives of partner organizations and companies, and members of the press (bloggers and traditional media).

Some of the judges for this national competition were present at the event and were invited onstage and introduced.  They also took some time to answer questions from the audience.

My personal thoughts

I am neither a student nor a graduate of Architecture or Interior Design but I  find myself quite excited about this event. Since this competition is primarily sponsored by Nippon Paint I am definitely expecting designs that are colorful, yet tasteful.

With the problems of climate change and overpopulation and the depletion of natural resources I couldn’t help but turn to our bright, young minds to see if maybe they can come up with a feasible, innovative solution that is sustainable, aesthetically pleasing, and an acceptable change that people will not have any issues adapting the design into their own living spaces, places of work, etc.

Project Noah

Project Noah, winning design of Ma. Rebecca Plaza, AYDAPH2017 gold award winner

As I dug through archives on the internet I came upon this article on The Philippine Star about Ma. Rebecca Plaza, AYDAPH2017 gold award winner in the Architecture category and I was in awe. Change for the better is possible, change is here.  Her idea to use engineered bamboo for the exterior of the building is just innovative!  According to her, bamboo has the tensile strength of steel and the compressive strength of concrete.  With that in mind I can’t help but wonder why aren’t all modern local structures not made of this material?

And that is just ONE example of the ideas these kids come up with.  Every year, 10 finalists per category are chosen out of the thousands who join.  This means that every year, the judges are able to identify 20 incredibly talented students with the potential to change the world one establishment at a time.  Amazing!

What can the winners and finalists expect?

Getting a good education nowadays is anything but cheap.  From tuition to books and materials, to uniforms, etc.  the list just goes on.  As the enrollment for the new term approaches, students and parents alike often stress about whether they would have enough money.

Michael Francisco, Nippon Paint General Manager

Michael Francisco, Nippon Paint General Manager

Winning this competition or even just making it into the finals is one possible way of providing a solution to that ongoing worry.  According to Mr. Michael Francisco, General Manager of Nippon Paint (Coatings) Philippines, winners and finalists can expect to receive the following:

  • Gold award (1st place) winners will receive P50,000 cash plus an internship opportunity and will compete in the International Competition of the Asia Young Designer Award in 2020.
  • Silver award (2nd place) winners will receive P30,000 cash plus an internship opportunity
  • 3rd to 10th place winners will each receive P10,000 cash

Special awards are also given to the finalists in addition to the above:

  • P5,000 cash for Best Green Innovation
  • P5,000 cash for Best Color Choice
  • P10,000 cash for People’s Choice Award

The mentor and the college/university of the winner will also receive an award.  In my opinion, this serves as an incentive for them to be more involved in the progress of their students that decided to enter the competition.

  • P10,000 cash will go to the mentor of the gold award recipient
  • P10,000 cash plus P10,000 in paint vouchers will go to the Best College/University
  • P10,000 cash plus P10,000 in paint vouchers will go to the Best Supporting College/University

Design pointers for the competition

According to the official Facebook page of Nippon Paint AYDAPH2019, the designs submitted are expected to do the following:

  1. Bring positive impact on environmental issues
  2. Infuse new values into the social and cultural context
  3. Enhance better community living and lifestyle
  4. Encourage progressive growth and development in a city

How they will do that is something that, I guess we will discover in the coming months and I, for one, am excited to see what they can come up with.

Will it be something for the home?  Maybe a community center of some sort?  Or will it be something for our pets and rescue animals?  As someone who has grown up with dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, fish, and turtles I can tell you right now that I would be very interested in something designed for pets, such as a community play area, for example. 🙂

TPB to tap huge MICE market in China during IT&CM

TPB to tap huge MICE market in China during IT&CM

To help position the Philippines not only as a top tourist destination but also as a premier venue for meetings, incentives, conventions, events, and exhibits  (MICE), the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB), marketing arm of the Department of Tourism (DOT), is set to tap into the Chinese MICE market through the annual Incentive Travel and Conventions, Meetings (IT&CM). To be held in Shanghai on 19 to 21 March 2019, IT&CM is the only MICE trade fair in Shanghai and Eastern China, making it China’s largest gathering of MICE professionals.

Delegates from the Philippines will include TPB representatives and ten Philippine co-exhibitors from different MICE industries: hotel and restaurant, travel agencies, tour operators, convention venues, and incentive houses. IT&CM is a great opportunity to expand the delegates’ business and networking capabilities through a series of MICE-related functions and tours.

The trade fair also serves as a platform to further promote Philippine MICE capabilities in China. In fact, as the positive bilateral relationship between the Philippines and China continues to grow, Chinese organizers’ interest in the Philippines as a preferred MICE destination is also piqued.

In last year’s IT&CM, the Philippine delegation met a significant number of Chinese investors through MICE Sales Presentation organized by the DOT-Shanghai office and the pre-scheduled business-to-business appointments at the IT&CM China Show. Out of the 320 appointments made by TPB representatives and private sector partners who participated in the event, good business leads were secured, which heaped millions of revenues for the country.

The materialization of these business leads also contributed to the increase of Chinese tourists. In 2018, China came second in the list of top tourism markets, with 1.2M Chinese tourist arrivals in the country. The number of tourist arrivals is expected to grow as the country continues to boost its MICE venues.

From international and regional meetings, conferences, conventions, and congresses, the Philippines has hosted a series of MICE events for years since the establishment of Southeast Asia’s first full-fledged convention center, the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC). Hotels, convention centers, and special events venues are continuously being constructed across the archipelago, spurred by the strong demand for new rooms and facilities.

TPB’s participation in the IT&CM aims to create more awareness to these state-of-the-art facilities available in the country and foster individual partnership between Chinese MICE agents and tour operators, and Philippine private sector participants. By joining IT&CM, Philippine MICE industry can attract more Chinese tourists to experience why it’s more fun in the Philippines.
