EQUINOX: A Drag|Rave Halloween Ball

EQUINOX: A Drag|Rave Halloween Ball

The Rave Industry is somewhat saturated with artists and festivals. Boxed by commercialism, only a few try to make a difference in the sea of sameness. But there will always be good music, and interesting artists just looking for opportunities to be seen and heard in EDM’s process of evolution. And because fans deserve something new, a new sound and a new experience, we dare to bring them to you.

Equinox: A Drag|Rave Halloween Ball – the most anticipated pre-halloween event

Headlining this event are up and coming Filipino LGBT superstar artists: DJ SweetHeart, SuperStarletXXX and DJ Duo “Boys Can Trance”.

Mrs. Philippines Globe 2016 Coronation Night

Mrs. Philippines Globe 2016 Coronation Night

Mrs. Philippines Globe 2016 will be crowned tonight!  For the last couple of weeks I’ve posted a couple of things about Mrs. Globe.  The first for Mrs. Bacolod Globe and then later the article that introduces the finalists for tonight’s event.

Mrs. Philippines Globe 2016 candidatesI had the pleasure of attending the media event where these 17 lovely women were introduced.  Along with the former winners they are a beautiful sight to behold.

Meeting the candidates for Mrs. Philippines Globe 2016

During the event (where candidate number 1, Darlene Conde was not present) we were able to see them walk, pose, dance a little bit, and get to know the candidates a little better.  It was clear from the start that the media had favorites.  These were the candidates that were asked the most questions.  To be fair they mostly answered very well.  There may have been a fumble or two, but mostly they were forgivable.

Describe yourself in ONE WORD

Mrs. GlobeAt some point in the evening this lovely lady (Mrs. Globe 2013, Sheryl Lynn Baas, according to the Philippine Star) asked a question and addressed it to all the other candidates who were not addressed by the media.  This was her question … “if there was ONE WORD that would describe you, what word would that be and why?”

This took some thought.  Even I, though not a contestant, had to stop and think … what if I had been asked that question?  Many of the candidates answered well enough but the one that almost made me choke on my spit was the one that said she could not come up with one word but rather a phrase and the phrase she gave was (drum roll, please) … BREAST FEEDER.

Jaw hit table.  Breast feeder?  Seriously?!?  And, her reason … because she was literally just breast feeding just before stepping into the venue for the event.  So, of course, my next action was to look down at her chest and I noticed she was small breasted which made me wonder if she had enough milk for her baby.

Ok, ok … That might have been mean.  And maybe she just couldn’t think of anything else by the time it was her turn to speak.  But, it also displayed to me that this lady was not good at following instructions … neither was she graceful under pressure … because if I were a judge (which I’m not) that was a big misstep.

Nova Christine dela Cruz

Dr. Nova Christine dela Cruz, Dermatologist

Dr. Nova Christine dela Cruz, Dermatologist

The candidate I am rooting for is number 15, Dr. Nova Christine dela Cruz.  I have known Chris for about 17 years.  She was my gym buddy, was and is my dermatologist, but more importantly, she is my friend.  I am very picky about my friends so for me to call her that means that she has a wonderful heart … and is truly beautiful inside and out.

She told me months ago that she was joining the competition but it completely slipped my mind until I saw her step out in that lovely blue dress.

Genevieve Uy

Genevieve Uy

Genevieve Uy

Another candidate who I thought was beautiful and was able to answer the questions properly was number 12, Genevieve Uy.  If my memory serves me correctly she is a “plain” housewife with a doting husband.

I wanted to interject at that point that there is nothing “plain” about being a housewife because it is the most difficult job of all. 🙂

Pageant Night

Tonight the audience will be witness to our lovely ladies in swimsuits, dancing, beautiful gowns, dancing, intelligent answers to thought-provoking questions, dancing … and did I say dancing already? 😀

Who will take home the crown of Mrs. Philippines Globe 2016 and will go on to represent the country in Hainan, China for the Mrs. Globe 2016 competition?  Your guess is as good as mine and in just a few hours we will know.

Special Awards

Aside from the coveted Mrs. Philippines Globe title, candidates will also vie for the coveted Woman of Substance title alongside other special awards such as:

  • Achievement of the Year
  • Best Talent of the Year
  • Career Woman of the Year
  • Charity or Advocacy of the Year
  • Darling of the Press
  • Entrepreneur of the Year
  • Husband of the Year – which, I suppose, will be awarded to the most loving husband of one of the candidates 🙂
  • Most Beautiful Face
  • Mrs. Body Beautiful
  • Mrs. Philippines Globe Classic 2018 – the latest addition to the special awards to be given to the chosen contestant between 45 to 55 years old
  • Most Elegant Woman
  • Personality of the Year
  • Solane Mother of the Year

Criteria for Judging

Candidates will be judged based on the following criteria:

  • 35% beauty charm and poise
  • 35% personality intelligence conduct
  • 30% figure

Scooping happiness at Baskin-Robbins Bonifacio High Street

Bonifacio High Street is a favorite weekend fun spot for many residents of Metro Manila.  Here we can find so many things that could cater to our whims.  Spas, shops, parks, restaurants, cafes, dessert stores, kiosks, and many more.

New store opening at Bonifacio High Street

Baskin-Robbins Bonifacio High Street

Baskin-Robbins Bonifacio High Street

Baskin-Robbins, the world’s most beloved ice cream brand, spreads more happiness as it opens its 14th branch at B8, Bonifacio High Street, Taguig, delighting ice cream lovers around the metro.

The newest branch of the world’s largest chain of ice cream specialty shops features premium hard scoop ice cream, customized ice cream cakes and a full range of frozen beverages which will now be easily accessible to shoppers and residents within Bonifacio High Street and nearby areas in BGC.

Michael Dargani

President of IceDream Inc., exclusive licensee of Baskin-Robbins in the Philippines.

“There has been a lot of anticipation for the opening of this branch so we are looking forward to bringing our extensive flavor variety and fun factor to the lively Bonifacio High Street area. Guests can expect to enjoy their usual favorites plus a whole range of new and exciting flavors.” shares Michael Dargani, President of IceDream Inc., exclusive licensee of Baskin-Robbins in the Philippines.

To make the store opening more fun and memorable, Baskin-Robbins lined up a series of delicious treats for its guests and customers, including a special one time offer of their awesome range of ice cream flavors for just P31 all day on October 1.

Treats of the day

Apart from the sweet treats, guests enjoyed many freebies and various activities including a lively performance by the UP Dance Company, a friendly meet-and-greet with the Baskin-Robbins mascot, photo printing, face painting, a special booth called ‘Waffle Wonderland’ where guests could customize their waffles in various shapes and colors and ‘Fundae Sundae’ a booth designed for pure indulgence.

Waffle Wonderland

Waffle Wonderland

I felt some school loyalty so I opted for the green waffle cup. Animo La Salle! 😀 Cone or cup the choice is yours!  For my ice cream flavor I chose Baskin-Robbins Double Chocolate. Yum!

Fundae Sundae

Fundae sundae! Oh what fun indeed! #baskinrobbinsbhs

The fundae sundae is definitely a lot of fun … to watch them assemble and later, to eat.

  1. They take a cup and half fill it with toppings.  I chose crumbled Oreos.
  2. Then they ask you for the flavor you want – here I chose Love Potion Dark.
  3. Then they take a sugar cone and push it down on the ice cream.

How to eat.

  1. Push the cone down a bit so that the ice cream picks up some toppings.
  2. Lift up and enjoy.
  3. Repeat as many times as you want until the toppings, ice cream, and cone are gone. 😀

Ice Cream Cakes

The brand’s delicious and mouth-watering ice cream cakes also attract dessert enthusiasts worldwide. Each delectable cake is made up of one’s choice of Baskin-Robbins ice cream flavors.

Available in a wide variety of designs and sizes, they are perfect to celebrate any occasion — birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, weddings, and graduations or just to satisfy ice cream cravings!

Baskin-Robbins was founded in 1945 by two ice cream enthusiasts whose passion led to the creation of more than 1,300 ice cream flavors and a wide variety of delicious treats.

Give in to your sweet cravings and join the fun with the opening of the newest Baskin-Robbins’ branch. Come visit the latest addition to Baskin-Robbins’ growing chain.

Lazada Launches first ever STYLECON in PH

Lazada Launches first ever STYLECON in PH

The first ever STYLECON, held last September 10 where bloggers, influencers, and industry insiders were treated to informative and inspiring talks.

Lazada Stylecon Panelists: Sassa Jimenez, Patty Ang, Kelsey Merritt, Bea Constantino, and Angela Yeo

Lazada Stylecon Panelists: Sassa Jimenez, Patty Ang, Kelsey Merritt, Bea Constantino, and Angela Yeo

The event brought together today’s brightest young names in the different fields of style, such as makeup, couture, styling, and modeling. Talks revolved around style and beauty in the age of social media and digital shopping.

Quotes for Stylecon panelists

Bea Constantino

Bea Constantino, one of the most celebrated fashion stylists in the country, shares how sometimes the most unexpected things turn out for the best, “Fashion was never my thing when I was young. But through the years, I fell in love with it. Inspiration comes from all over – from people to places and experiences. Surviving this industry is all about respecting those who came before you, learning relentlessly and finding your best self in the process.”

Patty Ang

Seeing fashion accessories as an investment was also a highlight in the discussion. Patty Ang,designer for Andi Eigenmann’s Cannes scene-stealer dress, said; “Invest in good jewelry. It’s a great investment because it stands the test of time. You can even pass it on to your children. Quality pieces, be it jewelry or leather bags, are great ways to add a sense of class to your wardrobe without feeling the need to update constantly.”

Sassa Jimenez

As for online shopping? Haute Couture designer Sassa Jimenez gave the most practical tip: “Online shopping is great because you don’t have to decide (and spend) on the spot if you want to purchase an item. In fact, you can make a wish list when shopping online. Add the items in your cart. Sleep on it. Come back the following day and assess if you still want to push through with the purchase.”

An interesting topic during the discussion was the effect of social media on fashion trends and individual style. Most of the audience, comprised of bloggers and online influencers, realized that even the experts in individual fields were always on the lookout for inspiration from other people. In a truly social world, we inspire each other with our own unique style.

Kelsey Merritt

Nowadays social media is an avenue for people to express their passion for fashion through images, and maybe even live their passions as well. “I have to thank the internet because social media gave me my big break as a model,” was Kelsey Merritt’s sentiment on how her fame sky-rocketed due to Instagram. From her stylish clothes to gorgeous make-up, Kelsey’s Instagram account garnered enough traction that an NYC-based agency signed her as one of their models.

Angelo Yeo

Angelo Yeo (beautylista.com) prepares for her FB Live makeup tutorial

Angelo Yeo (beautylista.com) prepares for her FB Live makeup tutorial

The roundtable discussion was followed by a makeup tutorial sponsored by L’Oréal. Angela Yeo,celebrity make-up artist and owner of beautylista.com, showed the audience how to achieve an easy “office chic” look – an everyday dilemma faced by majority of working women. The tutorial was broadcasted through Facebook LIVE via Lazada’s account. As a vlogger, Angela stressed the importance of product reviews when shopping online.

The most important learning from STYLECON was best summed up by Bea Constantino, “Find your passion, always update yourself, and build your brand.”

With more and more people passionate about fashion, Lazada has continually increased inventory with a wide assortment of fashion and health & beauty products. Lazada believes in empowering people to find their passion from the comfort of their homes, be it in fashion, photography, make-up, or the arts. Happy Birthday, Satchmi!

Happy Birthday, Satchmi!

The Satchmi Store was packed to the brim for their 1st birthday. A celebration of Satchmi’s love for records, music, and the lifestyle they cultivate together with their community of friends and loyal customers.

It’s no surprise when we saw people pouring in from all directions to the store. When you step in, it’s as if you’re in another world separated from the mall itself. There was free food courtesy of Mr. Graham’s Sandwich Shop, their highly talked about Cebuano along with chips and dip filled everyone’s appetite throughout the event. In tandem were Mrs. Graham’s macarons straight from her cafe, specially made for the event complete with vinyl record designs and plating. Their Apple Pie Soda was also served during the party as well as Craftpoint’s Summer Sessions. All free aside from Satchmi’s esteemed third-wave coffee.

People got to experience fun and games throughout the event like spin the wheel with prizes from Satchmi’s lifestyle brands — Happy Socks, Lost Nomad, Gouache Bags, The Green House Project, Sunday Paper Co and more, there was also a sleeve face Photo Booth contest, by the end of the night the most creative photo got to take home a Motorino Mk II. A Satchmi event wouldn’t be complete without performances from their favorite artists BP Valenzuela, Reese & Vica, CRWN, and up-and-coming Coeli. Chip Balbuena — a comedian from Comedy Cartel’s line up was also there to provide some laughs for the night.

The main event was when Satchmi released a video showcasing what was next for them this year. Some of the things announced were that they are opening a 2nd branch in Quezon City (exact location still top secret) in early 2016, the Motorino Mk II now comes in the new color Silver bidding goodbye to the Ivory model, a new Satchmi Blend of beans exclusive from EDSA Beverage Design Studio coming soon to the store and most importantly, a new vinyl compilation that is composed of some of their favorite performers from Vinyl Day 2013 to 2015. Some of the artists include Autotelic, Oh, Flamingo!, BP x CRWN collab, Tandems ’91, She’s Only Sixteen, Reese & Vica, Imago, Taken by Cars, and more! A total of 12 tracks for a vinyl produced and manufactured entirely by Satchmi. The vinyl, entitled “General Assembly” (and rightly so) will be released sometime in 2016.

“It definitely is hard to believe how far we’ve come, says Edric Chua, co-founder of Satchmi. “When we started out with just a couple of records and an online store, we always used to talk about opening a brick and mortar store until eventually the opportunity presented itself to us and we took it, he adds. “From an online store to an actual physical store, and now we are not only distributors but producers and manufacturers of actual vinyl records for a couple of vinyl enthusiasts, it’s amazing to see how far we’ve come, says Aislinn Chuahiock, another co-founder of Satchmi. When asked what their secret was into getting this far, Ronald Sy – Managing Director and co-founder of Satchmi simply said “It was really a collaborative effort. Both within the team and with everyone we’ve ever worked with. Our loyal customers and everyone who has ever supported us also helped materialize what we’ve been planning for how many years.

Vinyl records have been around for a while now and although the emergence of technology and digital music has proven to lessen physical music sales, the fact that vinyl is slowly growing and emerging to be the ultimate and most genuine medium shows that a love for the good old days will never go away. Satchmi has been the frontrunner in making vinyl records accessible to everyone and as proven today, they are here to stay and we couldn’t be any happier.

Satchmi is a music and lifestyle brand with a love for vinyl records, worldly goods, and everything in between. Visit their online store at www.satchmi.com or their physical store at the 4F Mega Fashion Hall, SM Megamall.
