Furniture is essential in making a house a home – welcoming and beautiful. It is even more special for its power to help create memories with families and friends.
As BLIMS Fine Furniture celebrates its 40th year, it highlights different stories of families from different generations who have had their special moments with their BLIMS furniture pieces.
Philanthropist Virgie Navarro and daughter Beng Feliciano
Philanthropist Virgie Navarro and daughter Beng Feliciano, co-founder of The Parenting Emporium, consider their BLIMS furniture as investment pieces. “When I was young, my mom always brought me to BLIMS. It was our bonding activity. After I had my own family, she would always tell me to buy from BLIMS because of the items’ quality, price and timelessness,” Feliciano says.
Among the favorite pieces of mother and daughter is a wooden chest of drawers bought many years ago. “It’s still very much intact until now,” says Navarro. “I gave it to my grandchild who uses it in her room.”
Model Kelly Misa and her son, Tristan
New mom and model Kelly Misa saw the benefits of investing on a La-Z Boy and a good mattress. “When my son Tristan was born, he was in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit due to infection. They had a recliner chair for the moms and I fell in love with it because that’s where I slept while nursing Tristan. I will always remember those precious bonding moments with my newborn son,” she said.
The mattress was also a prized possession. Misa says Tristan slept soundly when they tried one of the beds at BLIMS’ Mattress Gallery – a relaxing space where customers can try the top mattress brands in the country, including Ambassador, King Koil, Salem, Slumberland and Uratex Premium.
Misa who looks for quality and comfort when buying furniture, opts for items that are child-friendly as her son who loves to move around. “I’d rather save up for a piece that we really love and we know will last 10 to 20 years. I’m confident that they can give us what we are looking for,” she says.
Jorem and Shiela Catilo, professional photographers
For young parents and professional photographers Jorem and Shiela Catilo, BLIMS is all about celebrating milestones. “The BLIMS sofa from my parents’ house has seen us through different stages in our lives — from boyfriend and girlfriend, engaged couple, newlyweds to parents,” says Jorem.
As they establish their own family traditions, they hope their own BLIMS furniture pieces will also be part of their own story. “We have a sectional sofa where we can all fit. And that’s what we want—being able to enjoy something with the family,” says Shiela. “We want our kids to enjoy our home without fear of getting hurt or breaking something.”

BLIMS Fine Furniture proves that it is not only a one-stop shop that provides appliance and furniture items. Its pieces are tools for creating and celebrating wonderful moments with families and friends.

Whether you are a seasoned veteran or a young professional, the same rule applies when it comes to retirement: It helps to prepare ahead. In fact, the sooner in your life you prepare for it, the more benefits you will reap, and the more you will be able to live what you love when the time for retirement does come.
AXA, global leader in insurance and investment, recently organized a discussion to introduce a new product thataims to help customers live the life they love as they get older – AXA Retire Smart.
The event was attended by award-winning author, newspaper columnist and former advertising executive Barbara Gonzalez; broadcast executive turned entrepreneur Jose Ramon “Monchet” Olives; chef, restaurateur, surfer, and TV host JP Anglo; and erstwhile brand manager and current skincare entrepreneur Jacqueline Yuengtian-Gutierrez, to provide insights on having the right game plan in place to have a good retirement.
Each successful in his/her own right, the four speakers shared the points of view of different generations.
Gonzalez and Olives chose to leave top-level executive posts before reaching their companies’ mandatory retirement ages.
Gonzalez said, growing tired of the pressures of managing a large family-owned advertising agency, she opted for a less stressful but still productive and meaningful life. She conducts writing seminars and makes jewelry. “Do what you want to do and have fun!” she said. Life should not end when retirement age was reached. “It’s just a phase, actually.”
For Olives, a major factor for his early “retirement” was he wanted a change of pace from the pressures of the highly competitive broadcast industry. “I want to pursue a more creative passion and take care of myself moreas life can send you something unexpected. What’s important is to be happy.”
Today, he takes care of the family business of handcrafted fans.
Gutierrez had reached the top of the corporate ladder, but she wanted to spend more time with and focus on her family.
She quit her job in a multinational firm and started her own skin care line after making sure she was financially prepared for the major undertaking. “It is important to save up and set aside funds for future needs,” she said.
Anglo acknowledged that many of his peers hardly thought about retirement. Although his ventures were doing well, Anglo said he was already thinking about his retirement goal, which was “to cook for free and for the ones I love,” and how to accomplish that.
AXA Retire Smart is an investment-linked, regular pay product bundled with life insurance coverage that helps you strategically build a future fund that you can tap when you retire so you can live what you love.
Its savings component gradually builds your future retirement fund with payment schemes that are easy on the pocket, while a portion of your premium is allocated to funds designed to grow your investment.
And because it also is a life insurance product, a lump-sum cash benefit is provided to your family in case of your untimely demise. To learn more about AXA Retire Smart, visit axa.com.ph today.

Life offers amazing opportunities and grand adventures, but it can also take a sudden turn and bring unexpected challenges along the way. Such was the story of Lisa (not her real name), 25, when she decided to travel to Nepal to join a humanitarian mission to teach indigenous children.

Lisa was in Kathmandu on the 25th of April 2015 when a 7.9 magnitude earthquake hit Nepal, the biggest one to hit the country in over 70 years. Lisa suffered both physical and mental trauma. The fact that she was thousands of miles away from home caused incredible distress to her family, who were desperate to hear news from her.
They sought help from AXA Assistance, and her name was added by the crisis command center to the list of people covered by AXA within the vicinity of the earthquake. An AXA medical professional conducted checks among the injured and found Lisa. He regularly checked on Lisa, gave her a chance to talk to her parents, and arranged for her to return home to fully recover from her injuries. She had surgery, went through physical rehabilitation and attended peer counseling to help her deal with the mental trauma. She was empowered to move forward and fully recover and eventually, Lisa chose to return to her life in Kathmandu.

Rahul Hora, President and CEO of AXA Philippines
Lisa’s story is the powerful backdrop for the new brand campaign of AXA, a global leader in insurance. “This campaign is all about empowerment,” shares AXA Philippines CEO Rahul Hora. “It’s all about helping our customers to live the life they choose, by being prepared for unforeseen events and how AXA can help people pursue their dreams, make a difference, and live the life they choose—with the right plan and partner to guide them in their journey”.
AXA is present in 64 countries and has more than 107 million customers worldwide. It has been recognized as the leading global insurance brand for the past eight consecutive years by Interbrand in their annual Global Best Brands ranking.
Rahul concludes, “With this campaign, we hope to inform more Filipinos of what AXA can do for them, how we can help them manage unexpected events, and empower them to live the life they choose.”

When it comes to pampering on a national scale, Nailaholics Nail Salon and Spa holds the only spot. After introducing the celebration of the National Pampering Day last year, Nailaholics is back at it again this 2017 with an amplified nationwide celebration of relaxation that everyone is looking forward to this October 17.

The National Pampering Day got off to a good start last year where Nailaholics offered free manicure service and a stress relieving hand massage from 10 AM to 12 NN on all their branches nationwide. This year, everyone will be treated to a free service of their choice: a soothing manicure, calming foot spa or a relaxing foot massage.

“We Filipinos are very hardworking in any given aspect of our lives and a nation of energetic and industrious people best deserves real pampering once in a while.”
“This year, as Nailaholics celebrates the 2nd National Pampering Day, we go deeper and dedicate this to everyone and remind them to take it slow, take it easy, zone out and relax for a while.” said Arvin Amaro, Marketing Head of Nailaholics Nail Salon and Spa.
“With last year’s success of the National Pampering Day, we are back this year with a bigger and much more enjoyable day of pampering. In partnership with the number one salon brand and most beloved nail lacquer brand in the world, O.P.I., National Pampering Day 2017 will accommodate more guests with the extension of pampering time until 1PM.”
“Also, the best thing about this year’s National Pampering Day is that it will be in support to World Vision, The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), and Save Philippine Seas,” added Amaro.
When is #NationalPamperingDay?
So save the date and get ready to park away any thoughts of work because the only responsibility you have is to loosen up. Wind down and head down to any Nailaholics Nail Salon and Spa branch on October 17, 2017 (Tuesday) from 10 AM to 1 PM and get yourself a free relaxing manicure, foot spa or foot massage.
