Singapore Sets the Stage for Halal Culinary Revolution with Inaugural HalalTrip Gastronomy Awards

Singapore, 14 December 2023 — Singapore is poised to spearhead an innovative era in Halal culinary experiences, marked by the debut of the HalalTrip Gastronomy Awards. This groundbreaking endeavor, a collaborative effort between HalalTrip and the Singapore Halal Culinary Federation, was today exclusively unveiled to the media and partners, signifying an important milestone in the evolution of Halal dining. The awards, signaling the start of a new chapter in Halal cuisine, are set to extend their reach to additional cities in the forthcoming years.

The HalalTrip Gastronomy Award is a prestigious recognition in Halal dining, established to honor Singapore’s most exemplary Halal culinary establishments. These awards evaluate Halal eateries, placing a strong emphasis on culinary distinction. Participating venues are evaluated on five criteria, including creative presentation, flavor harmony, food quality, menu innovation, and service excellence, with the best performers receiving one to three diamonds. Moreover, leading contenders in each segment will vie for the coveted Best-in-Class Awards. This evaluation process is conducted with utmost integrity by professional inspectors dining incognito.

In addition to the awards, the HalalTrip Gastronomy Awards introduce a Gastronomy Cook-off, an arena for celebrating the extraordinary talents of chefs from Halal dining establishments. This competition will bring together chefs of diverse expertise, challenging them to stretch their culinary imagination and skills.

“We are thrilled to launch the HalalTrip Gastronomy Awards, a landmark initiative set to redefine the Halal dining experience in Singapore and globally. This platform is not just an award; it’s a celebration of culinary innovation and a tribute to the diverse, rich flavors that Halal cuisine offers. We aim to set new benchmarks in Halal culinary excellence, inspiring chefs and establishments to elevate their craft constantly. This is a step towards showcasing Singapore as a vibrant epicenter of Halal gastronomy, inviting the world to savor and appreciate the unique and exquisite tastes that our talented chefs create.” said Chef Kamal, President of the Singapore Halal Culinary Federation.

According to the Mastercard-CrescentRating Halal Food Lifestyle 2021 report, Singapore Muslims’ expenditure on Halal dining was estimated to be SGD 700 Million in 2019. Local Muslim millennials were identified as the key driving force behind the growth of this sector. With Muslim visitors to Singapore spending SGD 300 million in 2019, the total Halal dining market was estimated to be SGD 1 Billion in 2019.

The upward trajectory in the Halal food market mirrors the evolving preferences of the modern Muslim diner. Today’s consumers look beyond just Halal certification; they yearn for a rich and varied culinary experience, ranging from authentic street food to upscale fine dining, all aligned with their faith and ethical values. This shift signifies a growing emphasis on quality, innovation, and diversity in Halal gastronomy.

“In the spirit of innovation and appreciation for the finest in Halal gastronomy, the HalalTrip Gastronomy Awards mark a momentous partnership between HalalTrip and the Singapore Halal Culinary Federation,” said Raudha Zaini, Strategic Partnerships & Projects Lead at HalalTrip. “This inaugural culinary accolade sets the stage for the celebration of culinary excellence and spotlights exceptional Halal dining establishments, starting with Singapore. It is a testament to our commitment to continuously elevate Halal lifestyle experiences.”

The first HalalTrip Gastronomy Award recipients will be revealed at the fourth Halal In Travel Global Summit in May 2024. The summit serves as the leading international forum for the Halal travel industry, drawing a wide range of participants from travel professionals and industry pioneers to culinary experts.

World War Children Care Foundation (WCCF) Launches Global Initiative in Kuala Lumpur

World War Children Foundation [WCCF] officially launched at Shangri-la Hotel Kuala Lumpur. During the event, WCCF has also appointed representatives for its various chapters in Malaysia, China, Serbia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, Brunei, Laos, Myanmar, Hong Kong, and Taipei. These representatives will be responsible for coordinating local initiatives, fundraising, and advocating for the foundation’s mission in their respective regions.

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 13 (Bernama) — The World War Children Care Foundation (WCCF) officially commenced its international humanitarian mission aimed at assisting children affected by war with a swearing-in ceremony of the foundation’s committee today at Shang Ri La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.

The foundation, which was a registered non-profit organization in Malaysia, stated that the objective is to rescue and rehabilitate children residing in modern conflict zones while offering the said children educational opportunities that can nurture their physical and mental well-being. The foundation is created through a joint initiative between Madam Linda Wong, Dato Dr. Clement Tan of Clement & Associates, and Attorney Dato’ Koh Mui Tee. The foundation has appointed representatives for various chapters in Malaysia, China, Serbia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, Brunei, Laos, Myanmar, Hong Kong and Taipei.

In the near future, the foundation is set to lead the comprehensive ‘Dove Aid Operation’ (DAO) program in 2004, in close collaboration with several international organizations. This program will adopt a secure and holistic approach to safely extract children from war zones and provide them refuge in secure shelters, ensuring their safety and well-being.

“Together, we will identify the most urgently required rescue areas, assemble teams comprising medical personnel, social workers, and dedicated volunteers, and distribute essential supplies such as food, medicine, and bedding,” Linda Wong, WCCF President, emphasized during the launch of WCCF.

The foundation’s vision includes the establishment of International Humanitarian War Children Schools in Malaysia and China, which will be open to children from diverse backgrounds, races, religions, and cultures. These schools will implement the Caring Education curriculum, guided by the Yi Hai Education Group, with the goal of helping children overcome the psychological trauma they have experienced, fostering confidence, and reigniting optimism.

“We aim to showcase the incredible strength and courage of war children as they reintegrate into society, becoming compassionate individuals who contribute to rebuilding their homes and caring for others in need,” Wong noted.

Currently, tens of thousands of children worldwide endure the hardships of war. These children require not only care, support, and love but also urgent action. Therefore, WCCF passionately appeals to compassionate business organizations and individuals to join hands in this noble cause.

In addition to its mission, the foundation unveiled a business charity campaign called “Healing the World Through Business,” with the first corporate donation initiated through Green Smart Planet Platform’s continual business revenue, presented with a mock cheque for RM1,217,000.

During the event, the foundation further introduced “Saving War Children with Your Cup of Coffee,” where attendees voluntarily participated by adopting cups of premium coffee from Clemént Coffee Boutique, with all business profits donated to the foundation.

The foundation has appointed representatives for various chapters in Malaysia, China, Serbia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, Brunei, Laos, Myanmar, Hong Kong and Taipei.

The launch was also attended by Deputy Director-General of the Children’s Division Wan Noraidah Wan Mohd Zain on behalf of Women, Family, and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.

The choice to open in Nakano, much like our first Kanto outlet in Gotanda, reflects our respect for the area’s culture and history.

The Philosophy of ‘Sonoda Stand’:

The idea for “Sonoda Stand” emerged from a DJ event where ramen was served. This led to the establishment of a ramen shop, which later evolved into the concept of “Sonoda Stand,” focusing on what modern “public” or “masses” desire in a dining experience. This concept became popular on social media, leading to queues outside the store. “Sonoda” aims to continue offering a nostalgic yet modern dining experience that resonates with today’s generation.

Indonesia aims to Develop High-Quality and High-Integrity Carbon Credit Projects

Indonesia aims to Develop High-Quality and High-Integrity Carbon Credit Projects

JETP has set targets to be achieved by 2030, including 250 Mt CO2 emissions (on-grid) and a 44 per cent share of renewable generation. To meet these targets, an estimated $97.3 billion will be required by 2030.

SINGAPORE
– Indonesia and the International Partners Group (IPG), led by the United
States and Japan, have jointly committed to establishing the Just Energy Transition
Partnership (JETP) during the 2022 G20 Summit in Bali, Indonesia. JETP aims to
accelerate a fair and gradual energy transition in Indonesia’s electricity
sector. Through JETP, Indonesia pledges to reduce peak greenhouse gas emissions
to 290 metric tons of carbon dioxide (Mt CO2) by 2030, accelerate the share of
new and renewable energy (NRE) to 34 Mt CO2, and achieve Net Zero Emission
(NZE) by 2050. In support of Indonesia’s goals, IPG members have promised
funding of $20 billion from the public and private sectors for energy
transition projects in Indonesia.

According
to Edo Mahendra, the Special Advisor to the Coordinating Minister for Maritime
and Investment Affairs of Indonesia, JETP has set targets to be achieved by
2030, including 250 Mt CO2 emissions (on-grid) and a 44 per cent share of
renewable generation. To meet these targets, an estimated $97.3 billion will be
required by 2030.

“In
2030, there will be over 400 priority projects, and we need an investment of
$66.9 billion,” he stated during a presentation on the JETP Implementation
Phase and Indonesia Carbon at an investment forum held in Singapore on Friday
(8/12).

The
Comprehensive Investment and Policy Plan (CIPP) for the Indonesia Just Energy
Transition Partnership (JETP) has been released for public comment. The CIPP, a
“living document” requiring regular updates to reflect global trends
and national priorities, covers energy transition pathways, policy
recommendations, financing, and implementation.Image

“The
JETP website acts as the meta-monitoring platform for the public, facilitating
matchmaking between project developers and financiers. It also serves as a
dashboard to monitor and evaluate progress.”

Indonesia
is pursuing multiple carbon pricing mechanisms to capture value from emissions
reductions.

“The
carbon pricing mechanism is divided into two – market mechanism and non-market
mechanism. For market mechanisms, there is the Emission Trading System (ETS)
and offset carbon market.”

Edo
added that Indonesia aims to produce high-quality and high-integrity carbon
credit projects, with the benefits of spurring investment in emission
mitigation activities and low-carbon technology. The country also aims to
unlock opportunities from domestic and international entities seeking high-quality
carbon credits at a premium price and promote Indonesia as a global carbon
market hub.

“To
further develop its carbon market, Indonesia needs to focus on three key
pillars. First, opening the Indonesian carbon market for carbon credits from
projects in Indonesia and other countries and exploring the potential for
cooperation for derivative products. Secondly, collaboration with
internationally accredited carbon standards to ensure mutual recognition of
various traded carbon credits and to build quality of the human capital that
manages the Indonesian carbon market.”

According
to Edo, the last crucial aspect is technology, “Using technology that can
maintain the integrity, security, and transparency of carbon transactions, such
as blockchain,” he concluded.
