Fujifilm Philippines Supports Healthcare System Enhancement

Fujifilm Philippines Supports Healthcare System Enhancement

Fujifilm Philippines, the global leader in imaging and healthcare technology, has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Philippines’ healthcare system, particularly in the fight against tuberculosis (TB).

Recent data from the World Health Organization (WHO) for 2024 reveals that the Philippines remains among the top five countries responsible for more than half of the global TB cases. The Philippines is also listed among the 10 nations with a “high burden” of TB incidence, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced detection and treatment strategies.

In response to this critical healthcare hurdle, Fujifilm Philippines is reinforcing its efforts to end TB by bringing advanced technology that supports early detection and diagnosis in the country. The company has introduced the FDR X-Air, a portable X-ray system that plays a vital role in TB screening by enabling healthcare professionals to conduct rapid and accurate diagnostics in diverse and often challenging environments.

Fujifilm’s strong commitment to supporting the Philippines’ fight against TB is expressed through its donation of cutting-edge X-ray systems. In the turnover to DOH, held at the Official Residence of the Ambassador of Japan on December 3, Fujifilm Global President and CEO Teiichi Goto expressed his support for the Philippine government’s efforts in addressing public health concerns, stating:

“At Fujifilm, we recognize that timely and accurate diagnosis is essential in saving lives. Unfortunately, many people in remote or resource-limited areas lack access to essential diagnostic tools like X-rays. Through the FDR X-Air, known for imaging accuracy and portability, Fujifilm aims to help address gaps in healthcare access and enhance diagnostic capabilities throughout the Philippines. The technological advancements that come with the FDR X-air help clinicians deliver more precise and timely diagnoses, leading to better treatment decisions and improved patient outcomes.”

Mr. Goto went on to emphasize that early diagnosis is key to beating tuberculosis, among other diseases, and how Fujifilm is dedicated to enabling healthcare professionals with the tools they need to diagnose and treat this disease promptly.

The FDR X-Air is particularly engineered with portability – it is currently the lightest among registered portable X-ray equipment, has a compact design, and high image quality, making it an essential tool for improving TB screening efforts even in remote, underserved communities where access to healthcare infrastructure is limited. Its ease of use in rural areas where traditional, large-scale diagnostic equipment may not be feasible ensures that more Filipinos, especially those in hard-to-reach regions, can be screened and treated early.

Fujifilm’s initiative is part of the company’s broader corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts aimed at enhancing healthcare systems and supporting the government’s goal of reducing the TB burden in the country. By equipping healthcare facilities and professionals with state-of-the-art tools like the FDR X-Air, Fujifilm is playing a pivotal role in improving the accessibility, speed, and accuracy of medical diagnoses, ultimately contributing to better health outcomes for the Filipino people.

Japan Embassy and Fujifilm Philippines Supports TB Eradication with FDR Xair Donation to Olongapo

Japan Embassy and Fujifilm Philippines Supports TB Eradication with FDR Xair Donation to Olongapo

Olongapo City – FUJIFILM Philippines, a global leader in imaging and healthcare technology, in partnership with the Japan Embassy in the Philippines and CHSI Philippines, formulated a collective effort to provide an FDR Xair to the local government of Olongapo in a turnover ceremony held today. This initiative, which equips the local government with a powerful tool for TB detection, is in support of the government’s continuing efforts to combat tuberculosis (TB) in the country.

The donation, facilitated by CHSI Philippines, aims to bolster screening, early detection, and eradication of TB. The FDR Xair, a state-of-the-art portable X-ray system, is instrumental in early TB detection. Its portability and high image quality allow healthcare professionals to perform rapid and accurate screenings in various settings, particularly in remote and underserved communities where access to healthcare infrastructure is limited. By deploying these devices nationwide, FUJIFILM is closing healthcare access gaps and enhancing diagnostic accuracy.

According to 2022 data from the Department of Health (DOH), TB claims the lives of approximately 106 Filipinos daily. FUJIFILM’s innovative solutions, such as the FDR Xair, align with global efforts to reach, cure, and prevent TB in the Philippines. This portable device revolutionizes TB screening with its reliable performance, ease of use, and advanced imaging technology, making it particularly effective in areas with limited healthcare infrastructure.

In March 2023, FUJIFILM Philippines conducted its first Medical Mission and TB screening in Majayjay, Laguna, using their FDR nano and FDR Go Plus systems. The company plans to make this an annual program, continuing to utilize the FDR Xair to provide equitable and sustainable TB interventions. This year, FUJIFILM will make TB screening using FDR Xair available for free at the regular Makati Lingkod Bayan Caravan.

FUJIFILM recognizes the importance of a coordinated, multi-sectoral approach to tackle the global challenge of TB. By partnering with governments, international organizations, civil society, and the private sector, FUJIFILM aims to build a healthier, TB-free future.

With over 600,000 TB cases reported by the DOH as of December 31, 2023, the urgency for enhanced detection capabilities and coordinated efforts has never been greater. Despite the severity of TB, it remains curable, with free medication available at TB DOTS clinics nationwide.

FUJIFILM Philippines partners with Makati to provide free ultrasound to residents

FUJIFILM Philippines partners with Makati to provide free ultrasound to residents

FUJIFILM Philippines, a leading provider of innovative imaging and healthcare solutions, has partnered with the City Government of Makati to provide free, high-quality diagnostic services to residents through its weekly caravan in various barangays.

Masahiro Uehara, president of FUJIFILM Philippines, said that through this partnership, the company is reinforcing its commitment to improving access to essential healthcare services for communities in Makati. “At FUJIFILM Philippines, we believe that everyone deserves access to quality healthcare, regardless of their socioeconomic background. By collaborating with the City Government of Makati, we can reach more individuals and provide them with the diagnostic services they need to maintain their health and well-being,” he said.

The weekly Makati Lingkod Bayan Caravan provides residents with a wide range of diagnostic services, including general check-ups, blood pressure monitoring, blood sugar screening, and consultations with healthcare professionals.

On April 20, FUJIFILM Philippines began providing free ultrasound services to residents in Makati. The company sets up booths every week in barangays where the Makati Lingkod Bayan Caravan is held to support the health services offered by the Makati Health Department and the Ospital ng Makati. FUJIFILM Philippines uses the Arietta series machine for general ultrasound to diagnose medical conditions in residents. This initiative not only helps with early detection but also encourages the public to take proactive steps in managing their health.

The company will also showcase its flagship product, the FDR Xair, which is a portable X-ray device designed to help local healthcare providers screen for tuberculosis (TB) during the upcoming caravans. Weighing only 3.5 kg, the FDR Xair is highly portable and can operate without electricity for hours. It offers a much-needed screening solution that can be utilized in various medical treatment settings, including patients’ homes, isolation wards, and remote areas.

Aside from free diagnostic tests, FUJIFILM Philippines also provides free photography training and a pop-up studio with free photo printing to residents to foster creativity and offer new opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Uehara said Makati’s initiative to bring health services closer to residents aligns with Fujifilm’s purpose of bringing more smiles to Filipinos. The company continues to collaborate with governments, international organizations, civil society, and the private sector to address healthcare challenges.

“FUJIFILM Philippines aims to bring more smiles to Filipinos through innovative products and services. We believe that collaborating with the Makati LGU through the Makati Lingkod Bayan Caravan will help us extend our assistance to even more people. Thanks to Mayor Abby’s support and the local government, we were able to participate in this meaningful activity,” he added.

Makati is the second local government unit in the country to partner with FUJIFILM Philippines after its successful medical mission and TB screening program in Majayjay, Laguna, last year. The free ultrasound and x-ray program for Makati residents will run until November. Over 300 patients in Majayjay availed themselves of free X-ray services, with overwhelmingly positive feedback from the community. FUJIFILM Philippines’ dedication to accessible healthcare has earned them widespread praise, not only for their technical expertise but also for their commitment to serving communities in need.

During the medical mission in Majayjay, FUJIFILM Philippines used two of its state-of-the-art x-ray machines: the FDR nano and the FDR Go PLUS. These two mobile imaging devices are designed for high-quality X-ray imaging. Both are lightweight and compact, making them ideal for testing people in diverse healthcare environments.

Established in 1934 as a producer of photographic film in Japan, Fujifilm has dedicated itself to creating leading-edge, proprietary technologies by leveraging its photography expertise into other products and markets. Its businesses today span a diversified range of product segments based on a portfolio of chemical, mechanical, optical, electronic, and imaging technologies. The company started its operations in the Philippines in 2012.

This year, Fujifilm is celebrating its 90th anniversary, and coinciding with this celebration, Fujifilm launched a new global Purpose, “Giving our world more smiles,” which underscores the company’s commitment to bringing diverse ideas, unique capabilities, and extraordinary people together to change the world. Whether enhancing medical diagnostics, optimizing manufacturing processes, or advancing environmental sustainability, Fujifilm remains steadfast in its mission to build a brighter, healthier future for all.

Fujifilm Philippines Brings Healthcare Service to Communities

Fujifilm Philippines Brings Healthcare Service to Communities

Fujifilm Philippines, one of the most trusted leaders in imaging solutions, continues its commitment to enhancing healthcare in the Philippines by conducting health outreach programs in various parts of the country.

Masahiro Uehara, Fujifilm Philippines President, said the Japanese company will partner with local government units to provide free medical consultations and diagnostic tests to communities using their innovative medical equipment. These include the FDR nano and FDR GO Plus for tuberculosis screening and X-ray.

“As part of our corporate social responsibility and commitment to adapting to the changing times, Fujifilm Philippines is taking action by implementing social initiatives to aid Filipinos and local government units. Through these outreach programs, we want to show our dedication toward the betterment of communities,” he said.

Uehara noted that Fujifilm Philippines will first go to Majayjay, Laguna to kick off the outreach program and provide medical assistance to around 300 individuals.

“Majayjay is committed to providing quality healthcare to its citizens and its commitment makes it an ideal site to launch our health outreach program,” he explained.

During the event, Fujifilm Philippines will also turn over medical kits, including sphygmomanometers and thermometers, to the local government of Majayjay to augment the local health centers’ medical instruments.

“We are committed to providing medical assistance to communities in need. At the same time, we look forward to launching more programs that will benefit more Filipinos,” Uehara added.

Pivoting to healthcare

Fujifilm Philippines started its Medical Systems business in 2012 offering five of its pillar products including the Digital X-ray Systems, Computed Radiography Systems, Medical Informatics, Dry Imaging Printers, and X-ray Imaging Films. The introduction of these products paved the way to establish Fujifilm Brand.

In 2013, the business expanded to include Ultrasound Systems, Dry Chemistry, Digital Flat Panel Detectors, Endoscopy Systems, and Digital Mammography Systems. Fujifilm then became one of the most competitive brands in the market as it continuously increases its installation around the Philippines.

Moreover, with FUJIFILM Corporation’s latest acquisition of the Diagnostic Imaging-related Business of Hitachi, Ltd in 2021, Fujifilm Philippines now offers a comprehensive product lineup covering CT, MRI, X-ray, ultrasound systems, endoscopy, in-vitro diagnostic systems Pictures Archiving and Communications System (PACS).

At the height of the pandemic, Fujifilm Philippines helped healthcare workers identify and monitor COVID-19 patients through a mobile X-ray system called the FDR Go PLUS.

Another innovative medical instrument is the FDR nano, a mobile device for high-quality X-ray imaging. Unlike the traditional mobile X-ray, which is around 500 kilograms, the FDR nano only weighs 90 kilograms. Its compact design makes it easy to use and ideal for confined spaces.

Uehara said Fujifilm Philippines is dedicated to developing new technologies to produce exceptional products and facilitate the treatment of patients.

‘Never stop’ campaign

Besides health outreach programs, Fujifilm Philippines will also conduct basic photography training for young adults highlighting Fujifilm’s mirrorless cameras and Instax. The training will be facilitated by Ms. Jam Ramos, an instructor at the Federation of Philippine Photographers Foundation (FPPF) and a part-time multimedia teacher.

In 2020, Fujifilm Philippines launched the Fujifilm Online Academy, where professionals provide free photography, videography, and vlogging training. Fujifilm will also put on display its various camera products including mirrorless cameras and Instax to provide a hands-on experience for the participants.

As part of its “Never Stop” global brand campaign, Fujifilm offers a diverse selection of products and services, such as Healthcare (medical equipment and pharmaceuticals), Materials (data storage media, electronic materials, sensor films for touch panels, film for LCD monitors, inkjets, and graphic systems), Business Innovation (office printers, digital production printers, and business solutions) and Imaging (instant photography/Instax and advanced digital cameras).

Established in 2012 as a sales subsidiary of Fujifilm’s regional headquarters in the Asia Pacific, Fujifilm Philippines is committed to promoting sustainability and addressing social issues through developing innovative products, services, and technologies.
