If you are a commuter like me then you must be tired of this.

Whenever we take the train this is what we dream of instead.

And if you take the jeep (as most Manila commuters do) then you are more likely to experience this.

That’s the view from the outside.  Inside it means that passengers are seated shoulder to shoulder, hip to hip.  If you have to ride for more than 15 minutes, trust me, that is NOT a comfortable ride.

When faced with the daily stress of commuting don’t you wish you had your own car?  I certainly do.  In my wildest of dreams my dream car will be something like this 😀

Or … even a car like this:

I don’t know what car this is exactly but it’s a convertible and I like it. 😀

Hyundai Eon

But neither of those cars are really good for the local climate.  So I tried dreaming of something more realistic.  I stopped to think about it.  If I could afford it what kind of car would I actually get?  What is my achievable dream car?

I settled on two possibilities: subcompact like the Hyundai Eon or an SUV-ish vehicle like the Honda Mobilio.  A sedan?  Nah!  Been there, done that.  Bought the T-shirt.

The Hyundai Eon seems ideal because it is small and very maneuverable so should be a dream to drive in traffic.  The Honda Mobilio, on the other hand, is big enough that I won’t feel vulnerable when driving down main streets alongside big vehicles.

Like most working stiffs I can’t afford to buy a car outright.  My only options are …

  1. Join lots of raffles and hope to win the first prize, which, more often than not IS a car.  What a long shot!
  2. Give up the dream and just commute.  After all, I’ve been doing it for years and years and years.
  3. Opt for ride-sharing with Uber and Grab.  At the moment that is what I have been doing on days when I feel like taking a car instead.
  4. Get a car loan.

I will confess that I have been wary of getting a car loan to get my dream car for the longest time.  Like most people I’ve been scared … mostly of being rejected.  It is time to come out of my shell. (and you should, too!) That dream car is just a few keystrokes away.
